That's no different to a CEO of a utilities though taking our money to pay for their lavish houses - difference being, you can refuse to buy Jimmy Carr tickets, it's a bit more difficult to do that when it's water, gas or electricity.

If you ask me - the Prime Ministers comments smack of jealousy

The PM was responding to the Times Front Page
he had no choice.

Carr was Picked on due to his Piss Take of the Banks
on his Ch4 show.

And on Question Time last night
they confirmed that.

Lightbulb Cameron ducks Gary Barlow tax avoidance question

Prime Minister David Cameron has refused to criticise Gary Barlow over alleged use of a tax avoidance scheme.

Labour is calling on the Take That star to hand back the OBE he received in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

He is facing questions about money he is alleged to have invested in a tax scheme - Icebreaker 2 - being investigated by HM Revenue and Customs.

There is no suggestion the scheme is illegal but it could still be closed down by HMRC at a tax tribunal.

Mr Cameron said he was not going to give a "running commentary" on people's tax affairs - but he had made an exception for comedian Jimmy Carr because "it was a particularly egregious example of an avoidance scheme that seemed to me to be wrong".

Labour leader Ed Miliband opted not to join in with criticism of Jimmy Carr's tax arrangements, saying: "I'm not in favour of tax avoidance obviously, but I don't think it is for politicians to lecture people about morality."

But Labour has now accused Mr Cameron of having a partial view of "what's dodgy in the tax system".

Shadow commons leader Angela Eagle said: "The prime minister rushed to the TV studios to condemn the tax avoidance scheme used by Jimmy Carr but he did not take the opportunity to condemn as morally repugnant the tax avoidance scheme used by Conservative supporter Gary Barlow, who's given a whole new meaning to the phrase 'Take That'.

"If it's all so morally repugnant, why has he just been given an OBE in the birthday honours list?"

Take That's manager Jonathan Wild declined to comment.

Mr Barlow, Mr Wild and Take That members Howard Donald and Mark Owen are said to have invested £26m in a scheme - Icebreaker 2 - that is facing a legal challenge from HMRC.

HMRC said: "We are now preparing to litigate Icebreaker 2 but for legal reasons cannot say more at this time."

Beneficiaries of such schemes were normally forced to pay money back with a penalty.

HMRC had already closed down a similar scheme, Icebreaker 1, and was hopeful of closing Icebreaker 2 down at a tax tribunal later this year, he added.
So, Barlow's in Cameron's Club ....

Exclamation Cameron family fortune made in tax havens

http://m.guardian.co.uk/politics/201...s&type=article

Quote:
David Cameron's father ran a network of offshore investment funds to help build the family fortune that paid for the prime minister's inheritance, the Guardian can reveal.

Though entirely legal, the funds were set up in tax havens such as Panama City and Geneva, and explicitly boasted of their ability to remain outside UK tax jurisdiction.

At the time of his death in late 2010, Ian Cameron left a fortune of £2.74m in his will, from which David Cameron received the sum of £300,000.

Cameron and other cabinet members have recently suggested that they would be willing to disclose their personal tax filings amid growing scrutiny following the budget, but this would only shed light on annual sources of income rather than accumulated wealth or inheritance.

The structure employed by Cameron senior is now commonplace among modern hedge funds, which argue that offshore status can help attract international investors. UK residents would ordinarily have to pay tax on any profits they repatriated, and there is nothing to suggest the Camerons did not.

Nevertheless, the dramatic growth of such offshore financial activity has raised concerns that national tax authorities are struggling to pin down the world's super-rich.

Ian Cameron took advantage of a new climate of investment after all capital controls were abolished in 1979, making it legal to take any sum of money out of the country without it being taxed or controlled by the UK government.

Not long after the change, brought in by Margaret Thatcher after her first month in power, Ian Cameron began setting up and directing investment funds in tax havens around the world.

Leaving his full-time role as a City stockbroker, Ian Cameron went on to act as chairman of Close International Asset management, a multimillion-pound investment fund based in Jersey; as a senior director of Blairmore Holdings Inc, registered in Panama City and currently worth £25m; and he was also a shareholder in Blairmore Asset Management based in Geneva.

However, the family will – a public document seen by the Guardian – only details the assets of Ian Cameron's estate in England and Wales. Offshore investments would only be listed in submissions to HMRC for inheritance tax purposes. It is unclear what those assets – if any – are worth and which family member owns them.

In 2009 the compilers of the Sunday Times Rich List estimated Ian Cameron's wealth at £10m.

He was survived by his wife, Mary Fleur Cameron, who as his spouse would not have had to pay inheritance tax on sums transferred between them.

In 2006 Ian's eldest son, Alexander, became the sole owner of the family's £2.5m house in Newbury, Berkshire, where David had been brought up.

Another family home in Kensington, London, worth £1m, passed to his two daughters in equal share.

Cameron's father was "instrumental" in setting up the Panamanian company, Blairmore Holdings, in 1982, which was exempt from UK tax, when David was a pupil at Eton aged 16.

The fund shares its name with the family's ancestral home in Aberdeenshire, Blairmore House, in which Ian Cameron was born in 1932 but which the family no longer owns.
How the other half live, eh .....

He got out of it!...why?

I'm sure others have not felt the need to pull out, could it be the immense pressure the prime minister put on him due to his comments to the press?

How dare a comedian know the twists and loopholes that the uber wealthy have been jumping through for years....

Arrow David Cameron accused of hypocrisy for attack on Jimmy Carr

.. as wealthy Tory backers use similar tax 'dodges'

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk...6908-23899327/

Quote:
DAVID Cameron was last night branded a hypocrite for condemning comic Jimmy Carr's tax avoidance as morally wrong while his inner circle are involved in similar dodges.

Super-rich Tory backers Lord Ashcroft and David Rowland avoided paying tax in Britain but the Prime Minister still handed them prestigious jobs.

His father-in-law Viscount Astor holds property in an offshore company, George Osborne has a family trust and Andrew Mitchell invested in a tax haven.

Thumbs down Conservatives criticised over tax haven loans

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/poli...en-loans.html#

David Cameron is facing calls to pay back cheap loans of £1.2 million to the Conservative Party from companies registered in tax havens.

Quote:
The party was last night accused of hypocrisy for taking advantage of loans from offshore firms, after the Prime Minister criticised Jimmy Carr, the comedian, for using a tax avoidance scheme in Jersey.

The Conservative Party accepted the two loans on favourable terms from companies in known tax havens before the last election.

One £250,000 loan came from Juniper Trading, registered in the British Virgin Islands. It was given in 2004 at 0.25 per cent below the base rate, to be repaid in 2029.

Another £950,000 loan was made by the Medlina Foundation, based in Liechtenstein, at the base rate plus 1 per cent in the same year.

Last night a Tory spokesman said: “These are historic loans from before David Cameron was Conservative Party leader. The Conservative Party no longer accepts loans from non-UK trading companies.”

John Mann, the Labour MP for Bassetlaw, said Mr Cameron ought to hand back the money. “It would be the height of hypocrisy if he didn’t return those loans immediately. I’m sure it’s an oversight that he’ll pay attention to straight away to demonstrate his consistency.”
I'n sure .....

Arrow Cameron's Family Bankers .....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_cameron

Quote:
Through his paternal grandmother, Enid Agnes Maud Levita, Cameron is a direct descendant of King William IV by his mistress Dorothea Jordan. This illegitimate line consists of five generations of women starting with Elizabeth Hay, Countess of Erroll, née FitzClarence, William and Jordan's sixth child, through to Cameron's grandmother (thereby making Cameron a 5th cousin of Queen Elizabeth II).

Cameron's paternal forebears also have a long history in finance. His father Ian was senior partner of the stockbrokers Panmure Gordon, in which firm partnerships had long been held by Cameron's ancestors, including David's grandfather and great-grandfather, and was a Director of estate agent John D. Wood. David Cameron's great-great grandfather Emile Levita, a German-Jewish financier (and descendant of Renaissance scholar Elia Levita) who obtained British citizenship in 1871, was the director of the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China which became Standard Chartered Bank in 1969. His wife, Cameron's great-great grandmother, was a descendant of the wealthy Danish Jewish Rée family on her father's side. One of Emile's sons, Arthur Francis Levita (died 1910, brother of Sir Cecil Levita), of Panmure Gordon stockbrokers, together with great-great-grandfather Sir Ewen Cameron, London head of the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank, played key roles in arranging loans supplied by the Rothschilds to the Japanese Central Banker (later Prime Minister) Takahashi Korekiyo for the financing of the Japanese Government in the Russo-Japanese war.
Quote:
A Daily Mail article from June 2007 quoted Sunday Times Rich List compiler Philip Beresford, who had valued the Conservative Leader for the first time, as saying: "I put the combined family wealth of David and Samantha Cameron at £30 million plus. Both sides of the family are extremely wealthy."

We will need to wait and see if anything comes of pompous Gary Barlow's affairs but it seems he is involved in near similar at least.

Odd the PM refused to be drawn on him and yet made such a statement as to Jimmy Carr,if both have taken advantage of this in some way, equal measure of criticism should be given out as to both.

Kizzy, your posts have had me lol! It's just a shame that the country wasn't run by fair people with open eyes such as yourself

The absolute blatant ignorance of this could make a persons blood boil!

We have Jimmy Carr, doing no different to CaMorons chums, golden boy Gary Barlow, and a multitude of others - then we have the huge corporations such as Vodafone who pay zero tax, ziltch, nada! Yet are still permitted to trade in this country, taking tax payers money, AND charging VAT.

Oh the freaking irony
