Long time lurker and first time poster, let me just say, this forum is way more entertaining than the show. LOL So thanks!
I have been following the Deana saga since it started and I am not surprised by the reactions of the posters who already hated her in least bit. I don’t think racism played any role when people bullied her or let’s say bitched about her. (I have no interest in arguing over how she was bullied, because it’s done to death) They did that to her, because let’s face it, she is paranoid loner. Although she is justified to be paranoid, but when you are in a small group, keeping to yourself might not go well with majority in the house and hence, she was / is an easy target. And as far as playing for camera goes, I think she only responds to things addressed to her or tasks. Race aside, I do think that class did play a major role in this conflict. I think the hate for Deana started when she nominated Conor because he did not talk to her. Progressed when Arron tried to stop her from drinking and she rebuffed him and hurt his massive ego. From there, it was mob mentality bit. Arron went out of his way to prank her and get a reaction to his liking and failed miserably. The boys were certain that Deana and Lydia would be up last week and when they were not, it hurt their egos more. The fact is, these three wannabe alpha boys have egos bigger than the Milky Way galaxy and I am sure they might not have come across a woman, not interested in them in their lifetime. In their minds, they have already decided that she is an actor and sneaky and manipulative, etc, because it is easier t that way. So it was beyond their comprehension that their nominees were not up, because the others have to follow their suite. Conor said so. So the dislike turned to hate and her failing the eating task was last nail and they pounced. Conor said what he said not because he hates women or he hates Indians (I am not sure about this, but I am assuming) but because he has the false sense of security that he is untouchable, since there is safety in numbers. Did he mean what he said? Only he can answer that. However, what he said was something that should worry almost every human being, because threats of physical and sexual violence, even made in jest, which he admitted were not, are a matter of concern, if not much more. He will have to live with that till he is in public’s eye, this will be his legacy. A side note, I do wonder if he had said something about Scott and his sexuality and threatened to bash him up, how would that be taken? Don’t answer that! I am just making a point. The thing is most people do not realize that most BB contestants fade away in obscurity as soon as the season ends and that would be the fate of many this year as well, except maybe guest slots on Bit on the Side. Deana would have been a part of that trend as well, till Conor had his outburst. Deana should actually thank Arron and Conor and the bully housemates because they just made her career for her or at least paved way for a better future. I read about comparisons to Shilpa’s controversy, I hope it does not go to that level, because Jade and rest really had a tough life after that season for doing what they did (These people are not even in same league as the celebrities), whereas Shilpa became an insta-star. She was an actress but from what I understand nowhere near A list status in India. Jade and gang made her A-List star! Right now, she is married to a Billionaire Businessman, if I am not wrong and living large. I would like to point out though; even Shilpa did not say she was bullied in the house when asked. Deana aspires to be an actor, I think I read she did some non-noted stints in Bollywood and wants to marry rich bloke. The so-called bullies made it easier for Deana. They made her relevant, which makes it easy for her to pursue and further her career. As someone said, she is indeed above this game and hence boring housemate. She is beautiful, classy, intelligent, but let’s be honest, boring in the house. The fact is I am not sure which way the wind will blow but even if she leaves this week, they got what she wanted! Relevance! And if she stays, things will get way more interesting in coming weeks, because now she is a legitimate player. As someone noted that she will get pity vote, I would say one man’s pity is other man’s underdog and people love an underdog. Going by the trend of past evictees, I think hate for Lydia far exceeds anything amongst the voters. So unfortunately, the delusionally entertaining Lydia might be sent packing and add to that this Bully incident is like last nail on Lydia’s coffin. I do not care if Deana goes; I am not worried about her or her future. Sooner or later that girl will shine, whether her haters like it or not. While rest will be once again a face in the crowd after enjoying their two bits in the spotlight. |

Who knows how this incident will launch her career, but I think it'll be a terrible shame if it does. Shilpa dealt with a direct barrage of abuse by several members of the cast. Not so in Deana's case.
Two weeks ago during a conversation with Lydia, she suggested that Chris did not like her because of her race. I think she's almost as delusional as Lydia in the sense that they do not realize how unlikeable and overly dramatic they might be. They're just too much to deal with and require constant attention and affirmation. I find that people like that will generally be liked by someone with a romantic interest in them. Others couldn't be bothered. Last edited by sarakss; 26-06-2012 at 06:49 PM. |

Nope. Check out YT for the conversation. That's why I have my reservations about Deana - she plays the victim card too much. Oddly enough, I think Lauren was bullied a lot more than Deana. One group of girls treated her poorly and she talked to Lydia and Deana about it. When Lauren tries to resolve the situation by befriending the girls, Lydia and Deana accused her of being two-faced. Heaven forbid she wants to get along with people. They saw her weakness and took advantage of it.
