I mean, there's a body found in the canal on Friday. Today that kid who was a fan of the Stone Roses was found in Salford Quays, it's a bit close to reality, plus the actual body isnt integral to the main Peter plot.

I really feel sorry for the family after the sad news from today, although Corrie film so far in advance and they were not to know that something like this would happen.
If a soap had to keep changing a storyline everytime there was a tragic event happening on the news then there would be chaos in what they could actually show!

That is true, but this is close to Corrie's home that it might seem a little insensitive, they can easily just reshoot the scenes with the body being found else where than the canal, since it's not too important to the story as a whole.

Casualty and Holby City would never be aired if they had to keep editing storylines because they are distressing to victims, it is based in a hospital where real hospital staff deal with trauma every day.

Maybe they could do a quick reshoot of some scenes, but that would mean pulling Alison and Chris out of their break?
I think Chris' family would have other things on their mind than watch Corrie but I can understand how this story has upset people in Manchester and the UK in general... All Corrie and ITV can do is warn people that some scenes may be distressing before hand before the programme starts etc!

That's true about them being on a break, might be a bit hard to do otherwise, though the scenes don't include Peter I don't think, just Ken, Carla and Leanne

I've seen this being passed around on Twitter, has all the hallmarks of an official email, so it looks like it's real.

Coronation Street bosses have cut scenes after they were deemed too similar to the death of a Stone Roses fan.
Christopher Brahney was reported missing after seeing the 'Fools Gold' band play at Manchester's Heaton Park before being found dead at Salford Quays on Monday (July 9). Producers have decided to remove this Friday's storyline of a body being found in a canal out of respect for the late 22-year-old's family and friends. An ITV spokesperson told ITV News: "The producers of Coronation Street have taken the decision to remove references in this Friday's show, which although scripted and filmed weeks ago, bore some similarities to the manner in which Christopher Brahney's body was found." "Like many others, we were extremely saddened by the news of his death, and our thoughts and condolences are with his family," the statement added. Troubled alcoholic Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) disappeared in the plot, culminating in father Ken and estranged wife Leanne being told that a body found nearby matches Peter's description. However, after identifying the body at the police morgue, an emotional Ken and Leanne are relieved that the corpse does not belong to Peter. DS Last edited by Scarlett.; 11-07-2012 at 10:46 AM. |

If any of his friends or family would have watched the scenes, it might have been more distressing, than it already is, for them. There was a lot of people involved in the help of Christopher's search and support of his family. Good to see ITV are sensitive to the situation.
