... I'm laughing with the housemates, not at them.

For me, that is when BB is at it's best, I would be interested to hear if anyone else agree's or disagree's.

I think it's a tricky balance - too fluffy is just as boring as too angsty. Excluding the normal, fun moments is just as slanted as excluding all the conflict.
