Battle Royale may be adapted into a television series.

The LA Times reports that an adaptation of the 2000 Japanese thriller, to which The Hunger Games has frequently been compared, is being considered by The CW network.

Battle Royale sees a class of ninth-grade students kidnapped by the Japanese government and forced to compete to the death.

A small-screen adaptation has reportedly been on the cards for years, but according to Japanese law any version must first be approved by original novelist Koushun Takami.

The CW's Hunger Games-esque pilot The Selection - which follows a poor young woman who is chosen by lottery to participate in a competition to become the next queen of a war-torn nation - was not picked up for the network's fall schedule.

The channel that's planning on making it is the same one that gave the world One Tree Hill. They'll end up turning Mitsuko into a bitchy cheerleader, Noriko will be a 'geeky' girl with a quirky personality and the looks of a supermodel and everyone else will look like they've just left the set of an Abercrombie & Fitch photo shoot.
