An underage drinker attempted to get into a bar using Only Fools and Horses' Rodney Trotter's fake ID.

When the boy tried to enter the bar, doormen became suspicious when they noticed that the address printed on the card was 23 Nelson Mandela House, Peckham.

After spotting the card's birth year as 1960, the doormen also noticed that the picture was of Nicholas Lyndhurst, who plays Rodney in the hit TV show.

Pub workers at the establishment in Newquay, Cornwall went through the normal procedure for fake identification use. Inspector Ian Drummond-Smith said: "A forged licence can get you two years. People should think very hard about the consequences."

The policeman added: "I haven't seen a celebrity ID used like that. We put it through the scanner as a joke… then confiscated it."

ID scanners were brought into use at many of the bars in the seaside town due to the increase in underage drinking.

'Rodney' fled before police could get hold of him but his actions could have landed him in prison.
