Default Should there be a Politics section?

The Political news stories clogging up serious debates is quite annoying now. And they're never debates anyway, it just ends up the same old members sniping at eachother and page after page of endless rambles. I think you should either make it just SD again or give them a Politics section.

Cheers

As long as it keeps them out of SD it wouldn't matter.

Well, to me politics is all about life, the people we elect to represent us, the people who make our laws and do things that affect most of what we strive for and do in life,
I can't think of much that is more serious to debate than that really.

I, because of my strong interest as to politics though wouldn't mind in the least a politics section.

I get what you mean but it just ends up the same old stuff rehashed, that's what I was on about.

Sadly, that is part of politics too, I agree with you though, I wouldn't mind one bit having a separate Politics section.

Alot of serious debates are politically motivated though

plus alot of debates have been worn out coughreligioncough, so without the politics the place would be empty

Why shouldn't political discussions be in SD?
And so what who debates them? If you don't like it start a thread or post on whatever you do like joe.
Why has it only started to bug you today? I wasn't aware there had been any political discussion..

What is?... You are not making a lot of sense joe, like joey said politics plays an important part of SD and there will always be conflicting opinions on it.
You ramble on about what you like and I will ramble on about what I like, then we will both be happy eh?

Yeah but it used to be better when it was SD. Maybe they should just make a News and Politics forum, would be much better.

Can you give me an example of something that we could have a serious debate about that has nothing to do with a news topic or a political issue?

Go back in the section, you'll see plenty of things.

One thing that absolutely should not be there, though, is News Stories merged with serious debates.

The two are completely unrelated topics and I don't see why they should be lumped together.

Either create more sub-forums or bin the whole thing altogether like. No political threads, that would be swell.

Do you regard a News Story about (for example) a thug breaking into a house and being commended for this behaviour by a judge for his actions ''taking courage'' and being let off...as not a serious topic?

The type of news story will determine how 'serious' it is - what some regard as serious - others wont. You can't please all the people all of the time. Common sense prevails......

Politics is a huge part of life -whether interested in it or not - to suggest there should be no Political threads at all is bizarre.

I agree, some news stories are lighthearted and some have deeper social or political connotations.
It is up to you which you comment on and why, and seeing as the country is going through a series of fundamental changes there will be lots of stories with a political edge.

Yes, but what about all those times where you have the sub-forum filled with "5-year-old gets A* at GCSE Maths"? Should these also get classified as Serious Debates?

Balances itself out so instead of having a section with a mix of both serious debates and trivia it would be better to have separate sub-forums.

Although I don't really discuss my politics on here, I do think such discussions are apt for "serious debates"

So no, I don't think we need a politics section.
