Default Are you a 'Waster'?

I don't mean of the 'useless son of a biatch' variety - I mean as in, are you wasteful with things that don't have to be replaced, but replace them anyway?

Something I can't get out the habit of is having the heels on my shoes and boots redone, whether just the tips, or full heels: more when they've been expensive purchase initialy and it's the only thing wrong with them.

Most folk I know don't bother - fair enough if something didn't cost much to start off with - that I can understand.

A friend of mine years ago, threw out a perfectly good microwave - because the lightbulb went in it, and they couldn't be bothered to source a new bulb and fit it. Though, In fairness to them, they did ask a local shelter if they wanted it (along with an old telly) - refused due to 'elfnsafety'.

not really, I try to reuse old things as much as possible, especially clothes. I re-dye and re-stitch everything these days. Electrical stuff however I don't have a clue with though so I just chuck it out, including a microwave which I threw out last week

My mum had the same washing maching for about 40 years, it was awful. Sometimes it's best to chuck it out.

I'm a bit of a scrimper to be honest. Just the way I'm brought up I think... my brother & nephews had to wear hand-me-downs (I was the oldest one so I didn't ) and we keep all appliances and so on until they've really worn out. I've never had shoes redone but that's because I just buy cheapish ones.

It really depends how old the thing is, if its over 5 years in some cases the parts are no longer available or its cheaper to buy new...the worst thing is calling out a repairman who charges for the call out and then tells you it cant be fixed.

I'm terrible for throwing things out! If it is no good to me, or I haven't used/worn it in the last few months, it gets turfed out when i have my crazy clear outs!

I'm ashamed to say I don't even bother with charity shops or recycling... I get black bags and fill them with everything in the house which is useless.. food, clothes, appliances, the lot... they all get flung together and taken to the council tip

Oh, Im almost evangelical about donating old clothes to charity shops (I used to volunteer in a charity shop and even the stuff with holes in and no longer any good to wear will be taken by the "rag man" so it can still go in the charity bag, they get paid by weight.), also put stuff on freecycle, and have been known to sell stuff on ebay.

I'm very conscious of not throwing food away, I hate wastage and plan meals very carefully so i have exactly enough for the week.

Dying clothes is one of my things - usually redoing black stuff that I love, have had for donkeys years and refuse to throw them out because the only thing wrong is that they've become faded.

Such a silly daft thing, but it's great seeing one of your most fav tops or trousers looking brand new again after a box of Dylon!

haha yes your right Pyr, it's a great feeling knowing that you've made something old new again. It's so easy too especially the washing machine ones, just pop them in and hang out to dry.

Forgetting to do an empty boil wash immediately afterwards can be a downer mind you !! Especially when you've fired in a white wash. Commonly known as 'false economy' !

Its basically down to poor management then, as a volunteer, we had to pay for any stuff we wanted and it was mostly crap anyway.
