Default Primark to start selling CDs

Quote:
High street clothes store Primark is to start selling CDs.

Certain branches of the shop will soon start stocking music by Universal Music Group artists – which includes the likes of Rihanna and Jay-Z - as part of a trial venture, reports BBC News.

Primark, which has 242 stores in the UK - has justified the move by saying that "fashion and music have always been synonymous" and that they will be filling a "natural gap in the market". A spokesperson for the store continued: "Primark has a strong relationship with licensed product and the CDs are a natural complement to Primark's merchandise."

The move could see Primark going into competition with high street music vendor, HMV, who earlier this year were forced to deny reports that Amazon had overtaken the chain as the UK's leading home entertainment retailer. They described the figures released by market research company Kantar as "skewed" and "misleading" as they chose to include computer games which tips the balance in Amazon's favour, with HMV still leading the way in CD and DVD sales.

In November last year, meanwhile, HMV announced half-year losses of £36.4 million, but claimed that their decision to focus on technology products was working, with like-for-like sales of products such as headphones, speaker docks and tablet computers up by 147 per cent. It also subsequently announced plans to step up the amount of vinyl it stocks, in response to demand from customers.
well if they're the same price as their clothes then get in.

It all depends on their pricing, although Primark are normally quite aggressive where that is concerned, and their profit margins are lower than most other retailers. They will have to be in line with some of the supermarkets though, as they can give some great offers. For example, I got Rihanna's album for £3 a few months back. If it works out for them, they will be able to shift volume, which will give them more buying power and hopefully lead to better deals, benefitting the consumer.

This is almost as good as when I bought Destiny's Child's "Survivor" for a quid in Poundland.
