SCENE 1
Ext. Shot Of London
A Graphic of London and busy streets; the graphic flies towards a street and then a House, it flies into Erin’s House and then bedroom. It sees Erin’s alarm clock ring and her knock it off her bedside table.
Erin VO: When I was growing up, my Mum told me I could be anything I wanted to be. She told me that as long as I believed hard enough I could do anything I wanted. So this is my Story on how I decided to become what I wanted…
Julia: ERIN! TIME TO GET UP!
SCENE 2
Int. Erin’s House – Kitchen
We see Erin P, a 16 year old intelligent girl sat in her Kitchen on a regular Monday morning at 8:30am. Erin is eating breakfast alone listening to the radio.
Radio VO: And it looks like sun all over London today with temperatures hitting hitting….
In comes Erin’s Mum interrupting the radio
Julia: …and don’t even get me started on the washing! How many times have I told you to stop letting it rot in your bedroom?
Erin: Oh give it a rest, it’s not like I’m running out of clothes now is it?
Julia: No but I’d appreciate it if you’d actually bring down your things for once!
Julia leans over Erin and kisses her on the head
Now, do you need anything from the shops?
Erin: Nothing important, just the usual.
Julia: OK, I’ll see you later and don’t be late for school again will you! I’m bored of the school phoning in
Erin rolls her eyes and finishes off her breakfast. She turns up the radio and listens to a news item
Radio VO: … In other news today, an 18 year old female has been murdered following a gang robbery in the early hours of this morning. Police are on the scene as we speak and have identified a young girl…
Erin’s Mum turns off the radio
Julia: That’s enough of that; now go on get off to school!
Erin smiles and picks up her school bag and coat and heads out the door.
SCENE 3
Ext. Erin’s Street
Erin walks out of her door and onto the busy street where she lives. She passes all sorts of people and shops before eventually arriving at school… late again. Erin slowly walks down the quiet corridor trying to make sure nobody notices her but MR PHILLIPS; the school’s Head Teacher spots her and stops her dead in her tracks.
Mr Phillips: Miss Povey! Late again I see?
Erin: Sorry Sir, I’ll try not to be late next….
Mr Phillips cuts across Erin before she can finish
Mr Phillips: Oh no, you’ve had enough chances. Now if you’d like to follow me.
Mr Phillips turns and waves his hand in the direction of his office. They start walking as the school bell rings and kids pour out of different classrooms where Erin spots her best friend SCOTT, a 16 year old Boy who is very popular in school
Erin: SCOTT!
Scott hears Erin and Smiles
Scott: Erin! Did you hear on the radio about that girl who got stabbed?
Erin: Sort of, my Mum cut it off. What happened?
Scott: I don’t know, gangs or something
Mr Phillips notices that Erin has stopped and shots towards her
Mr Phillips: Come along Miss Povey!
Erin ignores him and carries on talking to Scott
Erin: Any idea where it happened?
Scott: Yeah, Georgewood Street near my House.
Erin: Might be worth a look? I mean you know how much I like a investigation…
Mr Phillips starts getting impatient and starts shouting
Mr Phillips: MISS POVEY!
Erin: ALRIGHT I’M COMING! Sorry, I better go
Scott: See you at break?
Erin: Course!
Erin walks off Smiling towards Mr Phillips leading her to his office.
SCENE 4
Ext. School Field at Dinner
Erin is walking around a tree in the School Field waiting for Scott to find her. Erin looks frustrated and annoyed.
Scott: There you are, I’ve been looking for you all over.
Erin: Sorry
Scott: What’s up?
Erin: Oh nothing, just Phillips giving me detention with Smith for a week.
Scott: Ouch!
Erin: Tell me about it…
There is a long pause between them both; the sound of the other teenagers playing football and gossiping is all that can be heard.
Scott: Please don’t tell me you’re still thinking about that murder?
Erin: No…
Scott looks directly at her
Scott: Erin! I told you, you’ve got to stop this ‘investigation’ stuff. It’s stupid. You’re going to get yourself hurt.
Erin: I know, but I can’t stop myself. You know it’s what I want to do…
Scott: Yes, but your 16! Leave it to the experts; Now you coming to get dinner?
Erin: Yeah I suppose…
Scott drags her by her arm gently and they walk off together smiling.
Int. Science Classroom
Erin is in distant thought as the science teacher talks. The speech becomes muffled towards the end of the speaking
Science Teacher: The food chain is one of the most important factors of nature. It determines the food of different animals, and of course Humans….
A school bell rings marking the end of School. Erin gets her bag and coat and walks out of the school. Scott runs after her
Ext. School Yard
Scott: Erin! Erin wait up!
Erin stops and turns around and sees Scott. She smiles and waves
Erin: Hey You!
They start walking off together
Scott: You haven’t had any other thoughts about the stabbing have you?...
Erin goes quiet and looks at the houses opposite the street
Erin?
Erin: No, not really
Scott looks at her and smiles
Scott: You’re lying
Erin: I’m not!
Scott: You blink quickly when you lie Erin…
Erin looks away and smirks
Erin: OK, fine. Yes I’ve been thinking about it.
Scott: Look Erin, you know how dangerous hanging around cases like this is. You could get sucked into it all and get into serious trouble.
Erin looks directly at Scott. They stop walking for a moment
Erin: I know, but it’s just… I feel like I should do something to help.
Scott: There’s nothing you can do. Now I don’t know about you, but I feel like I could use a Pizza?
Scott smiles at Erin and walks off ahead. Erin lays back a little watching Scott walk. She pulls out her Phone and sees a message from her Mum. The message reads:
I won’t be home until 8, got held up at work again! Really sorry, Dinner is in the fridge. Love You! X
Erin smiles again and runs after Scott linking onto his arm.
