A mother has breastfed the wrong baby, after an infant mix-up at a Minnesota hospital.

Staff at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital placed the baby in the wrong crib in the hospital nursery, ABC News reports.

The baby that was breastfed by the wrong mother has to be tested for HIV and hepatitis, and will continue to receive the tests every three months for the next year. So far, the results have been negative.

The newborn's mother, Tammy Van Dyke, told ABC she could not stop crying on the way home from the hospital after she found out her baby had been breastfed by another woman.

The other mother who was accidentally breastfeeding the baby was also upset as she had to wait before hospital staff found her own child.

The hospital offered Van Dyke their sincerest apologies for the confusion, and said it would pay for the baby's tests.

All newborn babies look the same anyway so I can understand the parents mistaking them, but how can the Doctors and Nurses not notice when they have there names tagged onto there Cribs?
