Toni Braxton Hospitalized for Lupus Complications
Quote:
Singer Toni Braxton has been hospitalized in an LA area hospital for the second time over complications related to Lupus disease. On December 9, 2012, she tweeted to her fans that she was being released from the hospital that day and seemed to be in positive spirits.

Diagnosed roughly 2 years prior her latest health scare incident, she has been valiantly enduring the symptoms of the painful disease. However, what put her in the hospital this time was actually blood clots – – a symptom of the disease that can be life-threatening.
Braxton (who has been struggling through bankruptcy) tweeted the following status update to her fans: "Going home today! I have a nurse to the house for a couple of days." Related to the happy medical news, celebrity gossip site NME said, "Braxton revealed two years ago that she has Lupus, the same disease that killed her uncle. The singer also suffers from a narrowing of the blood vessels in her heart."
Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease. Oftentimes painful and debilitating but hard to diagnose, it affects people different ways. Lupus can affect various parts of the body. Common body parts affected are the skin, joints, and kidneys. However, it can affect the blood itself -- which, in Braxton's case resulted in blood clots forming.
Blood clots present a risk to patients because they can cause almost instantaneous death or paralyzing strokes. If they dislodge and hit the brain they can be life threatening.
