Has anybody been there before or after the devastating earthquake that hit them a couple of years ago?

Just visited there before getting the tranzapline train across to Greymouth, and actually fell in love with the place. Still a lot of destruction and damaged buildings but most parts of the city are amazing and so beautiful. I'm really considering moving from Auckland to there.

Also I stayed in a hostel that had been converted from an old jail last night, was pretty cool.

Life along the Pacific Rim... Enjoy, Ben, looks amazing! If I ever went to jail, it'd be there, as long as they didn't take count every morning. Nicely done! Bars on the rooms? Do you get a key or do they let you out close to dawn? Do you get a special scented toilet paper roll or bidet?

I've been to the airport, had to wait there 3 hours for a flight to Dunedin One of the worst flights I've been on. Loads were getting cancelled cos of really bad wind and the captain was like "We're gonna give it a try anyway, see what happens"
