Alf you can be a total nob some times, don’t make light of what for many is a life of pain and suffering for those and their families.

Congratulations Kizzy, a great achievement, I sadly have experiences of people going both ways with alcoholism. My mum of course sadly never managed to conquer it for more than a few months at a time. My aunt (my mum's sister) on the other hand, who perhaps was in even deeper at her worst, both turns 70 and is 20 years sober this year.

The best medicine for pain and suffering is making light of it. The alternative is depression.

For your own pain and suffering yes this is key for a lot of people, you can't really encourage (or force) other people to laugh about their own personal things though. Has to come from the individual, and only when they're ready, or it can be gently encouraged if you know someone VERY well.

Telling a stranger or an aquaintance who isn't a good friend that they need to laugh at their trauma is a pretty big misfire.

I remember when you opened up about your mother, that must have been so hard . Im really happy for your aunt, it shows that at any age you can put it down, I don't have any answer's for how or why some do or don't pick up again. If I did I would be very rich.
