A German teenager was shocked to discover she was offered work at a brothel by a job centre.

The 19-year-old's mother is said to have screamed when she found the letter offering the placement as a hostess, reports local newspaper Augsburger Allgemeine.

The job centre in question apologised for the letter, saying that they should have asked her before sending it out.

Chief Roland Fuerst insisted that the work on offer was not in any way connected to prostitution, but more of an administrative position.

Prostitution is legal in Germany, and Fuerst's job centre stated that it was aware that the position would take place at a brothel.

The young woman said: "I was looking for a decent housekeeping job - not working at a brothel bar.

"I was totally shocked when I read the letter. My mother even started screaming out loud when she read the letter."

She received a letter from the job centre telling her that an employer was interested in her "profile'' and that she should ring them. Only on doing so did the woman, who has not been identified for legal reasons, realise that she was calling a brothel.

Under Germany's welfare reforms, any woman under 55 who has been out of work for more than a year can be forced to take an available job – including in the sex industry – or lose her unemployment benefit. Last month German unemployment rose for the 11th consecutive month to 4.5 million, taking the number out of work to its highest since reunification in 1990....

honest work for honest pay. I don't see the problem. She thinks she's too good for it?

If i was poor and i had a vagina, it would be on. i wouldn't have a problem with it.

She doesn't appreciate that she has a vagina,. think of all the gay boys that prostitute, they don't have a vagina, they have to take it in the ass. she should be grateful that she has a vagina.

Bosses at the Department for Work and Pensions were today left 'shaken and stirred' after pranksters posted a fake advert for a James Bond-esque 'Target Elimination Specialist' on their Jobcentre website.

The spoof recruitment ad appeared on the DirectGov site and stated that the successful applicant should be trained in using sniper rifles, be able to leave foreign countries by non-conventional means and assume new identities.

It added that candidates for the MI6 post should be willing to 'remove people' on behalf of the Government and would be equipped with special watches, jet packs and mini-submarines.
