Watch Dogs will be released for the Wii U, Ubisoft has confirmed.

The open-world action title, which was unveiled during Ubisoft's E3 press conference, will also be available for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and the newly announced PlayStation 4.

According to Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot, the PS4 version will "push the boundaries of what was previously thought possible".

"Ubisoft has a strong history of supporting new technologies with unique and creative offerings," Guillemot explained.

"The power and capability of the PS4 allows the Watch Dogs team to further push the boundaries of what was previously thought possible in interactive entertainment," he added.

Watch Dogs sees players take control of a hacker named Aiden Pearce, who has an entire city's surveillance system at his disposal.

It takes place from the third-person perspective, combining all-out action segments with hacking mechanics.

Pearce can tap into people's electronic devices to gather intel on them and infiltrate security systems vital to the city.

An E3 demonstration showed the protagonist bringing traffic to a standstill with his computing skills, and gaining entry to an art museum by jamming phones.

With Watch Dogs confirmed as a PlayStation 4 launch title, the game is likely to release on all platforms later this year.
