A 14-year-old girl has been found guilty of arranging the killing of a "kind, ambitious and humble" schoolboy after a row over football.



Junior Nkwelle, 15, was knifed in the heart and lung on a housing estate in Brixton, south London, last September.

The Old Bailey found the girl and her boyfriend, 17, guilty of manslaughter but not guilty of murder.

The pair, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, will be sentenced on 5 April.

Jurors heard Junior and his friends had been playing football on the Loughborough estate when an argument broke out.

The girl and her friends appeared to have taken offence over some matter, jurors were told.

The court heard Junior was subsequently stabbed in the chest after his killer arrived on a bus.

'Teach him a lesson'

Jonathan Turner, QC, prosecuting, said it was likely the pair did not know each other and there was no previous quarrel between them.

He said: "He [the defendant] had been telephoned by his girlfriend and told to come to the estate to teach Junior Nkwelle a lesson.

"She thought that Junior had insulted her or been less than respectful to her.

"She was very angry and determined that he should be punished - indeed stabbed - to put things right."

Following the conviction, Junior's mother Stella issued a statement which said: "Junior was my first child.

"I cannot actually believe he has been taken from us and still at times I expect him to walk through the front door.

"Even five months on I feel in a daze, like this is a bad dream, and one day I will wake up and he will be there at home laughing and talking about football.

"Then I am hit by the sad reality and the pain is indescribable.

"I had no chance to help, or see him and say goodbye and tell him how much I love him because by the time I got to him my poor child had bled to death.

"I wake every day and see where my boy was killed, the vision of him lying on the floor wounded, breathless, motionless - a horrific vision that is engraved in my mind.

"At night when I try to sleep that horrific night revisits me."

Det Ch Insp Charles King, of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "The death of Junior Nkwelle illustrates the terrible consequences of what appears to be the casual acceptance that knives have a part to play in minor disputes between young people.

"I hope that these convictions today go some way in helping Junior's family move forward."

RIP to the poor lad and my condolences go to his family. His killers will deserve their punishment, it will be a small comfort to the victims loved ones but of course it will never bring him back.

what did he say that pissed that girl off though? Why are we all just accepting that he was a sweet innocent boy, perhaps he deserved it... just saying.

Obviously vigilante justice is never okay, but you don't know what this kid was up to, and saying he's just a sweet innocent little boy seems a bit naive to me. Obviously there's got to be more to the story than just some 14 y/o girl ORDERING his death. That just doesn't make any sense at all.

We don't know the whole truth.

I said Vigilanteism is never okay. All i said was that we don't have the whole truth. I'm just saying there were probably all VERY intoxicated,and NOONE was making good decisions. Where were the parents??

A 14-year-old girl who "set up" a boy to be stabbed by her boyfriend after she felt she had been disrespected has been sentenced for his manslaughter.

Junior Nkwelle, 15, was stabbed in the chest on a housing estate in Brixton, south London, last September.

At the Old Bailey, Cherelle McKenzie-Jackson, 14, of Brixton, was sentenced to eight years, and Marc Tulloch, 17, from Herne Hill, was given 10 years.

The pair were cleared of murder at their trial last month.

Judge Richard Hone said he had decided to lift an order banning identification of the killers in the hope naming them would act as a deterrent.

Det Ch Insp Charles King said: "This death illustrates the terrible consequences of the casual acceptance that knives have a part to play in minor disputes between young people.

"This has been a sensitive investigation given the age of those involved. I would especially like to pay tribute to the young witnesses who had the sense of responsibility to give evidence, despite all the difficult circumstances in which they found themselves."

McKenzie-Jackson and Tulloch will both serve half their sentences at a young offenders institute.

The remainder of their sentences will be served on licence, and the 187 days they have already spent in custody will also be taken into consideration.

In 2008, Tulloch's brother Lyle Tulloch, 15, was stabbed to death at a house party in Borough.

The teenager was stabbed 13 times by Damien Sobowale of Gypsy Hill and Tobi Peters from Deptford who accused him of taking a mobile phone.

Both are serving a minimum of 12 years in prison.
