Default International Womens Day

''The figures reveal that 13,500 people – 80% of them women – reported domestic violence to Citizens Advice last year. There were 3,300 reported incidents between October and December 2012, an 11% increase on the same period the previous year. Although the figures should be treated with a degree of caution – a spike in reports of domestic violence, often considered to be a hidden crime, can arise as women feel more able to report it – Citizens Advice is sufficiently concerned to open specialist services for victims in 10 of its UK offices.

"These figures for domestic violence cases show it is disturbingly high and afflicts all levels of society – it haunts the lives of too many women and children," said Gillian Guy, Citizens Advice chief executive.

Calling on the prime minister to honour a promise made on International Women's Day to tackle the problem, she added: "As the scale of government cuts start to bite, we are concerned that our trend highlights how levels of domestic violence could get even worse. We need to see the government doing everything it can to deal with the problems of violence against women in our society and ensure they get the support they need."

Yes it is Vanessa. Considering how much progress has been made in so many ways in this world of ours, it's appalling how women are still treated as the weaker sex and treated derogatorily.

There's also a 20% of men who go through the same thing. I wonder how many of those cases go unreported.

Mens issues aren't ignored, but anyway no need to worry yourself, you can celebrate International Men's Day in November.

Not really sure why the OP of this thread is a quote about domestic violence against women though, that's not what IWD is about.

REMEMBER THE REAL REASON FOR WHICH CELEBRATES March 8 On the afternoon of March 25, 1911, a fire started on the eighth floor of the shirtwaist Company kill if 146 workers of both sexes. The majority of them were young Italian women or Jewish Eastern Europe. Since the factory occupied the top three floors of a ten-story building, 62 of the victims died in a desperate attempt to save themselves by jumping from the windows of the building as there is no other way out. owners of the factory, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, who at time of the fire were on the tenth floor and kept locked the workers for fear that stolen or were too many breaks, they began to safety and left to die women. The process that followed them acquitted and insurance paid them $ 445 for each working life: the compensation to the families was $ 75. Thousands of people took part in the funeral of Workers Source: "Music and Lyrics" - "Free Information"

Whoever moved this thanks

2013 Theme: THE GENDER AGENDA: GAINING MOMENTUM

Over time and distance, the equal rights of women have progressed. We celebrate the achievements of women while remaining vigilant and tenacious for further sustainable change. There is global momentum for championing women's equality.

Each year around the world, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Thousands of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women. Organisations, governments, charities, educational institutions, women's groups, corporations and the media celebrate the day. Many groups around the world choose different themes each year relevant to global and local gender issues.

"The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum" is the 2013 theme of our internationalwomensday.com website. Last year our 2012 theme was Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures which supported the United Nation's (UN) first International Day of the Girl celebrated on 11 October 2012. The UN declares an International Women's Day theme and for 2013 it is “A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women”. In 2012 it was "Empower Rural Women – End Hunger and Poverty". Many organisations develop International Women's Day themes relevant to their local contexts. For example, the European Parliament's 2012 theme was "Equal pay for work of equal value"

1 in 4 women will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime – many of these on a number of occasions.

One incident of domestic violence is reported to the police every minute.

On average, 2 women a week are killed by a current or former male partner.

its not true , it was jane fonda a legendary man hater, who did a campaign that claimed 1 in every 3 or 4 women are subject to violence in their lifetime

SUBJECT TO VIOLENCE IN THEIR LIFETIME?

make that 100% of all men are subject to some form of violence every week/month/year of their lives

they dont even differentiate between impoverished third world nations starving hungry, uneducated unclothed and the western world where these figures do not apply as high

its VERY wrong and dangerous to exaggerate such figures and take them out of context to provoke attention, or votes or raise cash, its similar to the UKIP exaggerating the immigration potential of other nations. yes raise these issues, but when you lie and exagerate it simply causes, fear, confusion, hate, distrust, discrimination, division etc
