Talking Struggling MPs want a pay rise

http://money.aol.co.uk/2013/03/28/to...-000-pay-rise/

Quote:
British MPs are struggling to make ends meet on £65,738 a year. A new Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) says 70% of MPs claim they deserve a +32% pay rise, potentially lifting salaries to £86,250.

And 20% of MPs thought remuneration of at least £95,000 a year was deserving. Could MPs get the salary jump they want?
Yes, I feel very sorry for these poor people having to get by on over 5x the wage that I get (plus all expenses paid)

I see how they are struggling

One minute they want to cut the number of MPs at westminster then they don't but then decide they would like to try for a pay rise.

People are having benefits cut and heavily too, no way at this time should raising MPs pay even be considered.

How can you struggle to make ends meet on a £60k+ salary?! This is beyond ludicrous.

I still think it's insane that they're allowed to go and rent their own houses in London wherever they please. They should just build an apartment block and shove them all in there.

For at least half of all MPs, i.e. Tories, the MPs salary is just loose change .....

They should all be means-tested and any MP (or his wife/partner) worth more than £1m (including house) should only get certified expenses from the public purse.....

Surely if anything, they should have a pay freeze like other public sector workers?

Owen raises a very valid point here, the cap on benefits...This is all well and good, yes not a bad idea to save money.
However, what of the landlords who are charging extortionate rents? Should they not be held accountable for this gulf in social and private rents.. they used to be. There were laws that were imposed to protect tenants from grossly inflated rents, whatever happened to their rights?

Tessa Jowell MP, added:

"This Government's misguided and shambolic approach to housing is clearly forcing some councils - both Labour and Conservative - to seek alternatives outside London to rehouse families. It cannot be fair that people who call London their home have to leave the city they love because they can't afford to live here."

http://www.arla.co.uk/news/2012/4/la...ouncils-49456/

London council accused of 'social cleansing' as it asks housing benefit families to move north
Newham council in London has been accused of "social cleansing" in the capital by asking a Stoke-on-Trent housing association to take on up to 500 families on housing benefit.

aww bless and they cant quite fiddle as much on expenses such as cleaning the moats in their castles etc they work less than half the year, most laws are made in brussels or devolved to scotland ireland wales and the english assemblies so they have about 80% less to do than they used to. they also write paper columns, sell books, tv and radio shows, get paid a forune to make speeches and public appearances etc maybe they have too much time on their hands so they dream up this nonsense

truth is we need about half as many mps as we have and theyre all utterly useless. do they ever tackle council corruption and waste which directly affects all our lives ? nope. they talk about utter nonsense like the ryan giggs affair and fox hunting? yeah top priorities to struggling families?
