Exclamation World's first 3D-printed gun fired in US

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22423883 (video)

Quote:
The world's first gun made with 3D printer technology has been successfully fired in the US.

The controversial group who created the firearm plan to make the blueprints available online.

Anti-gun advocates have criticised the project and Europol, Europe's law enforcement agency, said it was closely monitoring the development.
Soon, everyone will be "tooled up" .....

Probably going to be marketed in Europe as there would be no market for this in the US since everyone in the US already owns a gun.

Of all the things they could print out, they choose a gun.

Typical.

(Obviously Jesus has never heard of a sex shop if he has such artificial needs).

You want them to make food?

This isn't a magic printer. The objects are made out of non edible materials.

You can Buy a 3-D printer for 3K

Easy to make: Schumer says a plastic, 3-D gun can be made for as little as $1,000 and can be accessed by any terrorist, convict or mentally ill person

It's an ugly little thing isn't it. Looks more like a nail gun than a real gun.

I think it only works once, so it's probably going to be used mostly for suicides.

I agree, it's good technology, sadly it can't make food, but it is the sort of direction that I hope technology does move in.

Yes, but on a much much smaller scale, simpler to use too.

Think about how expensive printer ink is though, I'm sure the "ink"(i know it's not ink but you know what i mean) will be ridiculously expensive.

Its reuseable, fires one shot at a time.

The major problem is because it is made of plastic anyone that has the printer can make one and it cant be detected by normal detectors, used at airports, schools, jails etc.

Most but not all ammunition still comes in metallic forms, the ceramic type are very expensive but not unobtainable.

A terrorists dream?
