Basically i have a part-time job as a waiter, this is my first ever job so I'm not the best, But i started of really quite good, but They basically keep cutting my hours from 15 a week down to 4 and because of this i go into work feeling negative and i keep messing up.. like taking food to the wrong table, twice. So i was thinking of leaving but I'm not sure cos I don't want to mess up like that again because its really embarrassing and a few of my colleagues are complaining about me, So do i stick at it? or write them a letter about wanting to leave? What would you do?
(p.s sorry for this thread, sure you don't really give a sh*t but just need some advice.. thanks) Last edited by Jamie585; 06-05-2013 at 02:25 PM. |

If its stressing you...leave. Especially as you are only doing 4 hours a week.

I would leave, and volunteer in a charity shop. It sounds rubbish cause you're doing it for free but I started off in one, and it got me so much experience about working in a shop environment, and that way you can get another job.
Although, you could ask your manager where it is you're going wrong exactly, and that can help you improve, if you want to stick it out. I guess it depends how much you need money.

The two situations might be related? Maybe because your standard is slipping is the reason your hours are dropping.
I would personally discuss it with my manager just to find out where I stood. If you admit that your work has slipped, explain how you feel, but then say that you want to improve and learn, then I think you've handled the situation pretty maturely. The last option you should consider is leaving. Jobs are scarce out there, and it seems like the easy option. Battle it head on, and you'll feel far more accomplishment by turning it round than you ever will by quitting. Quitting is a bad habit to get into. Last edited by Jesus.; 06-05-2013 at 03:15 PM. |

Two things that stand out, you started off good...so with experience you should technically get better! However if fellow colleagues make your life difficult it can knock your confidence especially if you feel you are being watched and complained about. With regard to your hours being cut, I would say approach your manager and ask is there a reason your hours have been cut so drastically, presumably they have given your hours to someone else (already in house or did they bring someone new in?). It is dog eat dog in the world of work today and it may be someone is in your managers ear complaining so they basically get you out of a job and get their son/daughter/niece whatever the job. If you like the job hold on to the hours you got, concentrate and try and shake off the negative feelings you know you have done a good job in the past so you will do again, tell you manager you want try try and increase your hours and you are going to put the effort in. If you don't like it and you feel the likelihood is there will be no more hours for you pack it in. Last edited by Cherie; 06-05-2013 at 03:14 PM. |

Might aswell just quit, you must only be getting pennies for 4 hours a week anyway. Not really worth it.

I think you can find a better job, where you're appreciated and you enjoy more. 4 hours a week is not enough.

Tell your colleagues who are complaining about you, that they're a bunch of w*nker's, then go piss in the pasta sauce and leave.
