I don't think there was two eyes.

I think it was just supposed to be a teaser cloaked in darkness so you couldn't see the design (i.e.. secret) but everyone took it as the official design.

That's exactly it. It's the most sensible theory I've seen anyway.

It was a teaser, all the lights were off... it was prepping you for the big unveiling. It was a secret what the eye would look like...

The new eye is growing on me though.

Seeing as splash pages like this are only just becoming visible, there may still be time for billboards. If we don't get any tomorrow, then I'd rule it out altogether. 7 days is pushing it slightly.
