Default What is something you were taught in school...

..that you think is useless/pointless and can't see ever applying to anything you might do in life..?...

History, because it seems there are a million different versions of history and no one can prove which is correct. History was taught as facts, but really it's just depending on which perspective you want to see history from.

Everyone can choose their own version of history, and everyone calls all other versions of history "propaganda" so what is the point?

Everyone just chooses to believe whichever version of history they like to support their political opinions, and no one can agree.

Guess I could also add RE into things. As, similar to Alex's point with History, there's no proof that God exists. And other topics which basically nobody had any interest in. I guess the fact it was never a GCSE subject at my school sums things up.

With that said, Martin Luther King was one topic that interested me vastly.

In mathematics, the Pythagorean theorem — or Pythagoras' theorem — is a relation in Euclidean geometry among the three sides of a right triangle (right-angled triangle). In terms of areas, it states:

In any right-angled triangle, the area of the square whose side is the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares whose sides are the two legs (the two sides that meet at a right angle).

The theorem can be written as an equation relating the lengths of the sides a, b and c, often called the Pythagorean equation:[1]

where c represents the length of the hypotenuse, and a and b represent the lengths of the other two sides.

It is useless if you forget it.

I was almost fluent in Spanish when I graduated high school. Now I probably comprehend less than a child that watches Dora the Explorer.

So it was useless to learn Spanish and then forget all of it. It's my own fault for not keeping it up, but still, it was useless.

Everything from all three sciences, along with the vast majority of things that were covered in maths.

Million Pound Drop is more likely to ask you when Paris Hilton's dog's birthday is than anything about the battle of hastings.

This x100000. My knowledge of "Casehistory: Alison (head injury)" has been of no use to me since my poetry exam in May and I can't imagine it being useful in the future either.

I'd say French, too. I've always been terrible at it so maybe i'm a little biased but I still think the gcse was pointless. Even if I was at A* standard I still wouldn't be able to hold a conversation with a French person or even respond to the simplest of questions. The only things we did during those lessons were write endless amounts of paragraphs about subjects such as "my favourite holiday", "my favourite school subject" and "what I do in my spare time". We would then memorise them then speak them to our teachers in the oral exams. No one genuinely knew how to speak French by the end of year 11.

Surprisingly I found RE to be the most relevant to real life. They never taught us about God, instead we had to learn about marriages, divorce, why wars happen, bullying etc.

Most of PE was useless to me. When it was a sport that I disliked, I either didn't try or feigned injury. PE teacher hated me and I hated him.
