Dark Waters - 6.5/10

It was good, but not great. I couldn't really get into it tbh but I think if I watched it again then I would enjoy it more. It's a fascinating true story, however.

LA Confidential - 9/10

Was on BBC1 last night so had to catch it. Love it now the same if not more than I did on first viewing years ago. A truly excellent crime/noir film. Fantastic.

(If you haven’t seen it it will be on iPlayer now for a while I’m assuming so do give it a watch!)

I watched that just a week ago. Still a great film that was robbed at the Oscars.

Spoiler:

Jack's death always gives me chills. It was so unexpected.

Very feel-good film. Was both funny and emotional in parts. Solid film from Pixar

Millions Like Us, about women from all kinds of backgrounds working in a factory during the war. It was actually made during the war... I adore films that were made then in order to keep people's spirits up. Although I know it's not everyone's cup of tea.

A Time To Kill (1996)

Starring Matthew McConaughey, Samuel L. Jackson, Sandra Bullock, Kevin Spacey, Oliver Platt, Ashley Judd, Patrick Mcgoohan and Donald and Kiefer Sutherland.

After his 10 year old African American daughter is abducted, beaten, raped and almost killed by two white men, Billy Ray Cobb and Pete Willard, and fearing the two rapists will walk free in court, Carl Lee Hailey takes matters into his own hands, and personally kills the men whilst they are being escorted in the county courthouse. Afterwards, he is arrested, and Jake Brigance, a successful white lawyer, agrees to defend him. The rape and subsequent revenge killing gain national media attention.

This is a chilling, thought-provoking, hard-hitting piece that's taut, absorbing, and impeccably well-paced, and there are jaw-dropping performances by numerous top-flight actors here. Not one actor's time or talents were wasted in this extremely well thought-out project. The ending scene has such a powerful impact, and it is one of the greatest endings to a film I've ever seen.

10/10.

Michael Inside - 8/10

Wow, what a raw and brutaly realistic film. It depicts UK prison life with (sadly) great accuracy. Overall, it leaves you feeling totally empty afterwards but it's a must-watch for sure.

Dawn of the Dead (2004) - 7/10

This has not aged very well. I'm gutted to have to say that because I used to absolutely love this film and I do still think it's right up there in the 'zombie' genre. However, I didn't realise just how annoying and dumb most of the characters were! The main protagonist Ana is especially frustrating. Like, c'mon, you just not long witnessed your boyfriend turn into a zombie and now you're hooking up with someone just out of convienence?? The guy she hooks up with is annoying too and his 'suicide' couldn't have been any less emotional. And don't get me started on the young girl (Nicole) risking her life for a dog she has took ownership of for all of two minutes. The only likeable and smart characters were CJ (the lead security guard) and Kenneth (police officer).

It's still a good watch and I appreciate that it birthed the 'running zombie' (not counting 28 Days Later bc they're not zombies!), but the zombies themselves are not very scary at all, which is sad because they used to be terrifying!

I guess everything is better when your 10 years old and not supposed to be watching something

I've gone over quite a few Movies over the last few days.

Toy Story 4 - After being a fan of the first three Toy Story Films (1 & 3 in particular) I was expecting to enjoy Toy Story 4 because even though I'm more of a fan of some of the other Pixar Films/Franchises, I normally still enjoy the Toy Story Franchise.

However all of the elements that I enjoy about the Toy Story Films (the Adventure, humour, the fun, the iconic characters such as Buzz, Jessie The Cowgirl, and Mr. Potato Head) were largely absent in the Film and only having rare moments in the spotlight. The Film basically is a blend of Shipping, concluding Woody's personal journey, and some random Fork character that's used to be a plot device more than displaying actual personality. 4.5/10 For the odd occasion that the Film would be funny. Oh and the 'villain' was weak as **** which was another negative for me.

I Still See You - A bit too YA for me to truly love the Film, but it has interesting plot ideas and it was nice to see the two leads in the Film actually investigating the phenomenon as their main objective rather than focusing on being a CW flick (Tyler & Kinsey from Locke & Key I'm looking at you) Overall I give the Film a pass - 6/10

Atlantis: The Lost Empire - I am happy to say that I enjoyed the Film, I could take a guess at some of the reasons why the Film might be unpopular with some people, but I personally thought that the Film was fun. 8/10

Silent Hill (2006 Movie) - Obviously not as good as the Video Games imo, but it's probably the best effort that a Movie version of Silent Hill is ever going to deliver, and they replicated the atmosphere of the town quite well throughout the Film imo so I'm overall happy with the result. 8/10

Apologies for the thesis.

Currently watching the original Death Wish (Charles Bronson). It's not aged well at all and is very, VERY corny in some parts (some of the most unconvincing "attackers" you'll ever see) but I just love it.

"The Platform" (2019, Spanish, on Netflix)

A rather on-the-nose but well made metaphor for the process of trickle-down economics and why they don't work;

the concept is a prison "tower" where each cell is stacked one above the other, there's a big hold in the middle (so you can see up and down) and every day a huge slab table covered in food items of all sorts starts at the top and goes down floor by floor, stopping for a few minutes at each (so those on floor 1 get an untouched feast, and each floor gets whatever the last floor left behind).

Some pretty gorey stuff at times so avoid if you're not into that sort of thing. And again the message isn't overly subtle...

But I enjoyed it a lot and the filmography is great. Much like "Parasite" last week, I did find myself thinking that foreign language films at the moment are SO well made compared to US/UK movies, and on a fraction of the budget .

Easy 8/10, TS seal of approval

Oh also watched "Zombieland: Double Tap" a few nights ago which is totally unnecessary but at the same time, a LOT of fun. A great little piece of distraction entertainment.

Style wise reminds me a lot of the "Dead Rising" game series (I suspect there are some strong influences there actually).

7.5/10 if you're looking to zombie out for a couple of hours.

I watched this a few days ago. I agree with your comment in regards to foreign films being so well made. They seem to be far superior atm.

Brutal depiction of modern war. Gory, tense, and realistically shocking.
