Bad Boys (1995)

I never get tired of this film. Will Smith, Martin Lawrence and Téa Leoni are all superb and enjoyable to watch throughout this.

9.5/10

...The Foreigner...the storyline wasn’t really spectacular or different in any way...it was all fairly predictable and I felt that there could have been so much more in terms of shocks and twists etc...Pierce and Jackie, though......the two leads lifted it to make it very watchable anyway...6/10, I would say....

Capone - I love Tom Hardy and all and he played a brilliant part but this film was fair ****e. Most of it is in his head, it's a bit gross and honestly even though he's a real character couldn't possibly be "true" other than he had dementia at the end, no one could know what was going on in his head. Anyway it was boring. I'll give it a generous 5/10, all 5 points are for Tom Hardy

Siberia - What a terrible movie, the plot line was really simple but also hard to follow, if that makes sense? Anyway I watched it because I like Keanu but not even he could save this floppity flop 2/10

Nebraska (2013)

Quote:
Woodrow Grant, an alcoholic, embarks on a road trip to Lincoln, Nebraska, with his estranged son, David, to claim a $1 million prize. During their trip, David uncovers his father's emotional side.
Absolutely fell in love with this charmingly melancholic movie. Bruce Dern is just fantastic in this. Beautifully shot and graded in black and white, a really heart-warming story about "life" and life's journeys - just brilliant.

9/10.

Birdbox

I was distracted by the lead ladies scrubbed, botox face and i felt unsure about the lead man casting but it was quite gripping and an unusual concept if you did not think too deeply about it. 7/10

...Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom...I started to watch this a while ago and didn’t get around to finishing it, so I started from the beginning again yesterday...I love movies that are very contained and confined in a small set so that it’s all about the acting and doesn’t have any reliance on location shots at all to create everything essential to the movie...anyways, I can’t give anything away that would be a spoiler as such so...I loved it....I’ve watched very few of the award nominated movies this year, I’m struggling to find where I can watch them...but so far, with the few I’ve seen...an Oscar for Viola and an Oscar for Chadwick...both totally amazing performances in the movie......9/10....

Raya and the last dragon - the pacing is a bit all over the place IMO, it feels kind of rushed, but then the last 20 minutes or so saves it, it was pretty good 7/10

Promising Young Woman
Spoiler:

I can normally see endings coming, but for some reason didn't expect that? And even though it surprised me, it made total sense why that ending had to happen. BUT THE SATISFACTION when the lawyer receives that envelope. Just sad that it took TWO young women to lose their lives to get the bastards behind bars.

"I guess you just had to think about it in the right way. I guess it feels different when it's someone you love" this line applies to so much in society. People have very little time for compassion for others, which leads to the mess of a society we have. Everyone's far too self serving.

The first half of the movie, not gonna lie, it felt like Emerald Fennell stole a lot from Killing Eve (mostly stuff that was infused in the show before she ran the far inferior second season) but the story evolved and became way more of its own thing, so I kind of like the duality. It helps that you're expecting one kind of story and get another. Even down to the "romcom" style of some scenes, which helped get the point across about potential rapists being nice guys who don't see the wrong in what they do on nights out.

Anyway, probably biased because this is the only Oscar movie from this year that I've seen so far, but give Carey Mulligan the award.

Ready or Not
Don't know how I felt about this one. Gore makes me queasy. But it did make me laugh several times. What an utter selfish arsehole her husband was.

...Blue Ruin...it was more violent than I was entirely comfortable with but it was all relevant and in proportion to the story, though...it was an unexpected find and a more ‘realistic revenge’, type story ...7.5/10...

Encouraged by my husband who is a big fan, I finally relented and watched the three Matrix films. I'd always thought they were difficult to follow and quite confusing but I was wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed all three films and are giving them a rare 10/10.
