Hunger games with the kids. Because Skye came back from school with one of the books. Shes jumped from Peter Rabbit to Hunger Games overnight and its a little scary and I want her to stop growing up.

Just done a Tarantino double header of "Jackie Brown" and "The Hateful Eight"

Later tonight I shall be watching "Bram Stoker's Dracula" and the epic horror classic "The Shining" for Halloween.

Never seen the shining, its on my list of things I must watch at some stage in the future but forget whenever I have time for a film. Which is quite annoying.

Not to alarm you but REALLY soon after my eldest's "hunger games" phase, she jumped both feet first into her "Attack on Titan" phase. So it was like 2 years between "sweet bunny friends", and " main character's mother being crushed to death and eaten by giant naked people".

Hunger Games is like a gateway drug.

Halloween Kills

previous one was better, but still very enjoyable

death scenes becoming more gruesome than before too, Michael really finds the most disgusting ways to kill someone

Vicky has not seen "The Shining" Niamh said that she had never seen "Schindler's list" (don't know whether that has changed yet?) and I remember Shaun saying he'd never seen "The Godfather"

I think I should do a "100 movies to watch before you die" thread.

Intrusion - It was ok, bit predictable though 5.5/10

Army of Thieves
- Prequel to Army of the Dead, I enjoyed this, plenty of action, good cast and good back story for the safe cracker in Army of the Dead, he's a good character 7/10

"The Shining" was the last film I watched on Halloween.

Night off work tonight so I'm gonna do a double bill of Joaquin Phoenix.

I'm gonna watch "Her" which I've never seen before, so hopefully if it's as good as people say than that should be a treat. I'm gonna follow that with "Joker" which I saw at the pictures, but now will give it another viewing on dvd.

The Lighthouse

In a word: mental.

Was nothing like I expected, I don’t know if I’d rush to watch it again but I was gripped throughout totally. Just so weird, kind of like a fever dream. Disturbing and twisted and “odd”.

Visually stunning. Great acting too from Willem and R Patz.

8/10

Joker

Very good film, whether it will go down as an all time classic, I'm not sure about that, but in a very poor era for movies, it's one of the best of its time.

To be honest there are positives to just going with it - you don't have to watch just "kid stuff" any more, for one. A couple of years ago it was the computer-generated Addams Family... last year it was Hocus Pocus (which to be fair I still unironically like ) but this year... At the weekend for Halloween we watched a South Korean zombie movie (called #Alive, Netflix, actually quite enjoyable). It's actually bizarre how much she's changed in a year. She hated subtitles and refused to watch anything with them a year ago - then she got into anime, then found out that most of the shows she likes are several seasons ahead in Japan and aren't dubbed into English yet, so now it's subtitles all day.

Once Upon a Time in America

I've wanted to watch this film for years but at 4 hours long I've never really got round to it. Finally thought I would go for it last night and I was pretty disappointed. Don't know how you have a film that long and have so little character development - supposedly it's some poignant tale of friendship yet we barely see any real friendship between the main characters and 2 of the 4 gang just seem like extras even after watching it for four hours I could barely tell you much about the film or recall any memorable scenes

5/10

Rite - it was apparently based on a true story, not sure how much of that ****e I believe though, still a good film and Anthony Hopkins was outstanding as always. Such a fantastic actor 6.5/10

Same here I’ve wanted to see it for years and didn’t realise how long it was.

I’m about an hour in and not very gripped.

5/10? That's crazy talk. It's a best 1980s mobster film in my opinion, better than Scarface.
