Default Rylan: "Is He Alright"? (Callum)

After the clip of Callum ranting about Dexter in the DR was shown on Rylans Sunday show he asked Dan with an astonished/worried look on his face if Callum 'was alright'.
Well may he ask - I think that must be the most disturbing DR clip I have ever seen. The contortions on his face and his movements were pretty scary. I really don't get how he can appear quite normal one minute and the next behave like someone, well, quite frankly, 'not all there'.
I want to like him because I feel sorry for him and just when I'm getting there he goes and acts really weird and kind of sinister again.
I can't believe that anyone seeing his DR Dexter rant wouldn't think that was really weird - even his fans.
He doesn't do himself any favours at all and it's no wonder really that the HM's don't like him. I think even Sam is trying to back off.

I know what you mean, I have felt sorry for Callum for weeks but he is hard to like, Im just hoping he stays in longer than Dexter & Hazel but then he can go for me

I think it's a bit of a sad indictment of our society that if we believe someone is 'not quite right' and possible mentally ill (not saying he is, just that this is the conclusion a lot of people have come to) that this means he should be disliked and shunned.

To be strange, 'weird' and 'not all there' is to be suspect and treated as dangerous.

The statistical reality of course is that people with mental illnesses are far more likely to be the victims of violent attack than the perpetrators. But this doesn't stop us reacting to them with fear, suspicion and dislike. We treat as especially dangerous, people who are really especially vulnerable.

I agree with a lot of what you say here. Society dictates that we all learn the same social behavioral signals in interacting with each other. It's necessary to a degree in that it enables us to understand each other.
When someones body language and social signals are not the 'norm' they make others feel uncomfortable and uneasy. So it's no surprise that the person is mistrusted - it's human nature to want to be with those who make you feel safe and at ease.
The person displaying those traits are not necessarily mentally ill - but there is something amiss.

Reach people reach some more.

Yes, it was expressive and maybe not the way other people might get their point across but by no means was it scarey nor was it disturbing and I don't even believe it qualifies as a rant.

I do think Sam would like to distance himself from Callum and his strange behavior - as i think Sam realises he is being used by Callum in more ways than one - and who can blame him !!

Callum is lying about things Dexter told him. He wants to turn viewers against him. Some people have picked up on this on DS. He always stares at the camera when he's bitching about Dexter.

You beat me to it. I was pondering the same question. Rylan on X-factor, Rylan on CBB gave me the impression that he was a tad mental so he is hardly in a position to ask if Callum is alright.

even the twins think he needs therapy. i hope they get a shrink to analyze that drawing he did. as that is pure rage. everyone else drew clouds and eyes and faces he drew a explosion lol. you dont need a degree in psychology to see he needs help.

He's isolated from the housemates because he can't hear what is going on and none of them take that into account in their interactions, other than Callum.

Watching Dan talk to him last week was horrible. He wasn't even looking in his direction and was mumbling.

For all his faults (ha! got that in there) Callum is the only one who actually bothers to take Sam's hearing difficulties into account.

Not that he gets any credit for that. In fact, when he was signing to the lad a bit of dialogue he'd missed during a group discussion when jackie was still there, he got pulled up for making a lewd gesture to describe a lewd comment.

Yep. Doesn't matter though because no matter what he does he's just creepy.

If Charlie showed any interest in Callum or if the other HM's liked him and wanted to spend any time with him Sam would be history.

I do find many things he does creepy, and that side of him fascinates me, but I also find it disturbing. Other times he is quite normal, and I like that he helps Sam out. He's certainly not all bad as far as I'm concerned. But his weird moments give me the shivers.

I can certainly agree in a reasonable conversation that are some odd things about him. But I truly do not think its creepy, disturbing or evidence that he needs help as some keep pushing. Not everyone has a perfect personality but I really have not seen anything that could be deemed scary. So it really bothers me how OTT people are about him.

HERE HERE!! The other housemates don't even REALISE when they are doing things like that that exclude Sam from the conversation.
And Jackie was being a right aul biddy to Callum just cause he was trying to keep his mate in the loop. Looking for an excuse she was!

I'm sorry but that is just pure speculation and IMHO completely wrong. The two lads have a lot more in common with each other than with any other housemates

And to give Callum credit he is really the only 1 that considers Sams disability although I think it's a combination of him feeling sorry for Sam and thinking it will help him win over the public.

I think Sam will really cringe at Callum when he watches the show once he's out
Sam and Callum have plenty in common esp football and girls. Seeing the two of them crack on to the two tanning spray girls was GOLDEN! Callum is a typical lad albeit a little bit more upfront with his self-esteem issues.
I am certain Sam will laugh his ass off at Callums diary room antics and rip the piss out of him

callum uses sam he has latched on to him as he finds him easy to manipulate and as well as a good sounding board to gain airtime about dexter and raise his good guy image profile.

its like when the politicians get their pictures taken with the kids in the hospital wards. etc
callum is not stupid. he makes a massive big deal about sam to get the point across a look at me arn't i nice.
real friendships dont operate like that. i dont think any of us would be making a big deal if we was him. i know i wouldn't .
sam looks pissed of with it to be honest. he is stuck with the creep.
