Does anybody play this series?

Watching Arma II game play videos on youtube were one of the main reasons I decided to get a gaming PC, but I found the actual game very difficult to get into as you had to join organised squads of very serious players, and whilst I wanted to be a part of a serious war simulation game, I felt put off by the thought of looking like a newbie idiot amongst seasoned players.

Arma III alpha is out this week as well which has renewed my interest. Any seasoned Arma II players on here that would be willing to entertain a willing newbie?

I have the full Arma II series, operation arrowhead etc. and would be willing to buy III.
