If the jobless rate has stayed the same, but the claiments have gone down by 41,600, where have the 41,600 people gone?
This comment on the article sums up my thoughts exactly...

Its fantastic if people are actually getting work (and real work, not 0 hour contracts) but I just don't believe it. I want to believe it, but years of spin on unemployment figures (INCLUDING under labour, before anyone starts) have taught me otherwise.

Its just manipulation of the figures by the bloody idiots in charge. 0 hour contracts, part time work and people basically having to do something for nothing just so the stats look better.

I saw them talking about food banks on the news earlier, and the Torys saying its good to see society working together to help people out in hard times.

Absolute cocks.

Big companies have started taking on 2 people at 16 to 20 hours each, instead of one person on 35 to 40 hours. Voila. Double the number of "employed people". It's an illusion. For example, the company I work for has started taking on people on 5 to 10 hour contracts to cover little gaps in the workforce, where before they would just have tacked on little bits of overtime for current staff. Someone working 5 hours a week isn't technically "unemployed", I suppose... but, it's not exactly economically viable employment . Only useful for people like University Students looking to fund weekends out. No use at all to them once they graduate (and can't find a graduate position).

They've also started taking on a bit of slave labour... sorry, I mean "modern apprentices"... who get paid half of what everyone else does to do more or less the same job. But don't worry - they get an "NVQ" after 2 years (WHOOHOO!), and then booted out so we can take on another.

Again, it's another one off the "unemployment" books but come on. It's not a real job.

Any fall in the jobless is good news but it has to be looked at on the big picture not the snapshot the Govt presents.

Many jobs now being 'created' are only part time jobs.Even this study of the employed states that there are 1.5 million part time jobs now, the highest ever.
That is what is in a major part helping the unemployed figures look even with that figure, only slightly better.

The official unemployed figure is still around 2.5 million.

The real scandal of this Govts time in office is in fact that with inflation at 2.7% and having been way over the required figure and target figure of the Govt for almost 3 years now, this means in work or out of work, every day, week, month and year of this Govt people have seen a reduction in their income in real terms as their cost of living rises.

However, the Govt can claim to have not allowed the unemployment figure to rise to the levels it was stated it would by economists and the Opposition because of the cuts being made.
That too though has to be set along the problems this Govt has created for working people and those who are unable to work throuhg their heartless welfare reform and inability to do anything as to the continuous rises in the cost of living.

Most job sites are just full of work experience for a month roles now, like they are actually counting it as a form of employment now. Hilarious Lol

And catalogue distributors, all under different job titles but with the same companies. Self employed but they 'assure' you you can achieve a wage equivalent to NMW
