Emma Willis is riding high on a wave of success after an amazing 2013. In March she landed her dream job when she became Big Brother’s main presenter and in September it was announced she was replacing Holly Willoughby as host of The Voice UK, which returns next month on BBC1.
On Friday, she returns to the Elstree compound for what will be her second series fronting Celebrity Big Brother. Over the course of the next few weeks a new batch of celebrities will have their every waking moment filmed, and Emma, for one, couldn’t be more pleased.
Away from the TV screen Emma, 37, is married to McBusted’s Matt Willis. They have two children, Isabelle, four, and Ace, two.
Here, she tells Saturday about Celebrity Big Brother, her fabulous year and her plans for 2014.
What can we expect from Celebrity Big Brother this year?
Opulence seems to be the key word. I think it’s going to be luxurious and certainly different to this summer’s Big Brother which was all about upcycling. I think the celebrities are going to be spoilt rotten but messed with at the same time.
Why do you think it’s an ongoing success story?
I’ve loved watching Big Brother from day one. I am intrigued by people and quite nosy, and I like to observe what’s going on. A lot of people are like that, whether they admit it or not. Watching a bunch of people interact leads to a lot of different scenarios which makes fascinating TV. Add in the celebrities and it’s even more addictive.
How do you think Celebrity Big Brother differs from normal Big Brother?
For me the celebrity one is fun, whereas the participants in Big Brother are playing for the prize money, so it’s a different kind of game. The celebrities are being paid anyway so they might be there to pass the time and collect their pay cheque at the end or they could be there purely to have fun. Either way, I think it’s a bit more light-hearted.

Who would you like to see go into the house?
Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford. I think they should be given whatever it takes to get them into the house. He’s such a wonderful man and the dynamic of their relationship would be brilliant to watch. People come up to me all the time and ask who’s going into the house, but this time around I just don’t know. I couldn’t say anyway, but I’ve been so busy I’ve not even read the rumours.
It’s been a brilliant year for you, hasn’t it?
Yes, it’s been a very busy year. When Big Brother came along I was over the moon and then I was offered The Voice UK, which was brilliant. I’m also still presenting The Hub on This Morning. I have to say there have been a few moments of, “Hello, what’s going on? How did this happen?”
Did you consciously plan to bag yourself some more high profile jobs this year?
No. If I put that kind of pressure on myself it would drive me bonkers. I never planned to be a TV presenter, but it’s great it’s worked out this way.
What did you want to be when you grew up then?
My mum and dad both work in hospitals so I imagined I’d be up to my elbows in human body parts! I don’t know what career I’d have chosen, as I’m not clever enough to be a surgeon, but I do like to fix things. Delivering babies would an amazing job or I suppose it could be a new TV show.

What’s the secret of your success?
I have no idea, I just don’t know. Luck, maybe? I think Big Brother had a huge part to play in it all. Presenting the show was the moment in my career when I felt the most comfortable because I knew the format so well. Maybe because I’ve looked at ease, others have thought to use me as well. I believe you need just one opportunity to show what you can do and then it’s down to a lot of luck and timing.
