maybe you didn't read the article...GCHQ is happily using the American database for their own purposes. GCHQ is allowed access to the database so that they can spy on British subjects, without actually having to spy on British subjects. Stop trying to blame America for everything and worry about your own GCHQ, which are the ones getting around laws by spying on their own subjects using the American database.

The only reason Britain is allowing America to spy on British subjects, is because they can't legally do it themselves, so they allow America to do it. Then America gives them permission to see all of the data they collect, so technically Britain isn't spying on it's own subjects. ...but they really are. They are just using the NSA as a cover because it's illegal for them to do it themselves. The GCHQ are still getting the same information on British subjects they want, without having to do it themselves.

The scandal is that your government is allowing a foreign government to spy on you because they really want to spy on you, but they think this is a legal loop hole because they aren't legally able to spy on you. As long as they use the Americans to spy on you then they aren't spying on you.
