I didn't know there was unrest there. It's crazy how close countries are to chaos lately.

I have the King of Thailand on my death list, maybe he'll be violently overthrown
I know people who were travelling there just recently, would hate to be over there while that's going on |

I'm sad about this, I was in Thailand in November and December - we at first mistook the peaceful protests for a street party (complete with live bands!) but subsequently spent a bit of time at them...my closest colleague at work is Thai and she filled me in with a lot of the background.
If anyone doesn't know, the current Prime Minister is the sister of a previous prime Minister who was caught in a huge fraud, deposed, and exiled. The current Prime Minister wants to change the law on exile, and she has been accused by the anti-government party that her brother still has a lot of influence in her decisions, and that if allowed to return to Thailand, he would get to keep his ill-gotten gains. They are genuinely peaceful people, which shows just how strongly they feel about the situation.

The King is absolutely worshipped by the Thai People, he is almost a demigod. They love him so much they stopped the protests for his birthday on December 5th (both sides) Why the hatred? I think he unifies them.
