The former set of Coronation Street will open to the public in April.

The soap's Granada Studios Quay Street site in Manchester will be turned into a tourist attraction after planners gave their approval on the proposed project.


The ITV show had been filmed at the Quay Street set since 1982, before production was moved to MediaCityUK in Salford.

Following the soap's relocation, the old site was bought by developers Allied London and Manchester Council in a £26 million deal.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the tour will enable Coronation Street fans to explore the studios' Stage One, where they'll find some of the soap's best-known sets, as well as letting them walk around the exterior site, including the street's famous cobbles.

The tour will look at some of the show's best-loved characters, props and storylines, and will include a visit to 'The Corridor of Stars' which features the cast members' dressing rooms.

Special themed points will offer fans insights into behind-the-scenes techniques and production of the programme.

Prices for the attraction - which will also include a cafe and a gift shop - are yet to be confirmed.

A spokesman for ITV said: "We are pleased the council have given planning approval for the creation of a tourist attraction for a limited period.

"The attraction will allow fans of the soap to walk down the famous cobbles, on which the soap was filmed for many years, before its move earlier this year to its new home at MediaCityUK. Further details on content of the attraction will be confirmed at a later stage."
