Peep Show creators Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong have insisted that their new show Babylon is more drama than sitcom.
The writing duo have teamed with Oscar-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle for the cop series, which stars Brit Marling and James Nesbitt.
"Danny and executive producer Robert Jones pitched us this idea about doing a show about a modern police force," Bain explained.
"It quickly became apparent that it wasn't going to become a sitcom version of the police," added Armstrong. "I would really say that it's more of a drama than a comedy drama, even."
Bain described the Babylon set as "very focused, intense [and] exciting" under Boyle.
"He's not looking for input all the time because he knows what he's doing," Armstrong suggested. "But he's open to input, so he's really pretty much a dream director for a writer to work with."
Babylon will air a pilot episode on Channel 4 in February, with a full series currently in the works.
