Default Digital Camera - help?

I had a good pressie for Xmas - a little digital camera. All was going well - I downloaded photos and everything. However, tonight - disaster.
I plugged it all in, as usual, switched on the camera and waited but it just kept coming up with the message to check that the camera was connected to the PC (whhich it was and is). Nothing!!!!! I have uninstalled and reinstalled my software but stil nothing .... anyone, any ideas?

Try unpluging it, close down the pc, then replug the camera back in and switch on the camera then restart the pc see if that works. Make sure as well that you connect up to the same USB port as well, if you put it in another it might not be enabled depending on how many USB ports you have some might be switched on and some not, it's a pain. Anyway see if that works,

If its a USB connection put it in the same port don't put it in another USB post because a computer can get confused, make sure power is getting to the camara.

What version of Windows are you running ?

Verify that the instalation software is compatable with it. For my webcam on Miss Compaq (Windows XP) I had to download an updated driver from the manufacturers website

On a more fundamental level, if you can get a continuity tester check that there is no internal break in the connection cable as well.

I have had the same kind of trouble with my digital camera in the past, and I found that unplugging the USB cable while the computer is on, and plugging it back in again has helped.

Also, try unplugging the camera and then installing the drivers again while the camera is unplugged.

Can also have problems if you dont use an AC power connector when downloading the photographs - if you rely on the batteries they run down very quickly and its not possible to transfer the information.

Default TY to all

Thanks Guys - I knew you would come up with a range of options!!

However, I tried them all without success but.... the caretaker at school suggested that I keep the camera plugged in and switch off the Pc and then switch on while still plugge in - hey Presto!

Downloaded photos (not sure how)

Though I still think the prob is battery related (they were new ones but all did not ' seem well'.

Any other suggestions will be gratefullly accepted for next time!
PS anyone used Sd cards???
