I do play but the most I've ever won in any lottery (national, euromillions) is £9.80 and I've been playing since the national lottery launched 20 years ago. oh well, I quit smoking so it's the same money spent.

When the newspapers used to do 'Win 100 Lucky Dip tickets' I actually won this twice and won b*gger all from the 100 tickets. The next time when I reverted to my usual 1 lucky dip I won a measly £6. Don't know why the papers stopped doing this.

There should have been a mega draw to mark 10 years of Euromillions earlier this year imo.

I would love to know what % of big winners win from playing online. Whenever there's a Brit winner it's almost always from a shop. I hate getting an online/ text message saying 'we have exciting news about your ticket', thinking omg i've won a big prize and when I log in I discover it's £2.60!

Rumours that winner is in Portland

Agree. Going public doesn't just mean begging letters, but long lost acquaintances coming out of wood work trying to guilt trip money out of winner, conmen, people throwing themselves in front of winners £90K car, jealous embittered ex-wives trying to get a cut, and kidnap threats. Plus then there is the media digging dirt and following winners through the rest of lives.

The largish bloke who won the second biggest Euro lottery got divorce and the media lapped up the fall out. Hes now getting remarried to a young woman. The lottery lout Michel Carroll lost all his money after he won about 10 years ago and he's still tabloid fodder.

I've got a feeling the winner will lie low for a while keep schtum. All you'll probably here is that it's been quietly claimed and they want to remain anonymous. No cliche champagne photo-calls. Mind you if winners are anonymous, Camelot can't later help you if your identity is revealed. They can only help with other areas such as linking winners with financial advisers but not publicity.

The last big winner £107m Trotter bloke had his racist past dug up.

Not necessarily. I watched an anon jackpot winner discuss how she kept her massive Euro millions win a secret: if single the winner should keep the win quiet for 6 months not tell anyone. Then wait till there's a small normal lottery jackpot about £2 - 3m with a single anonymous winner (wait 1 month so noone goes public), pretend that you are the winner to your family and recently claim to found tickets.

Friendships generally rely on similar circumstances - i cant see many if any surviving unless you were to really share your win with some pals and even that could cause massive problems.

Yes but you just let your friends think you've won less than you actually have or keep win a secret.

A lot of winners who went public said friendships ended as the pals expected more money and expected winner to bankroll them, invest in crap business ideas or just jealousy.

I am not sure such a huge lie to your good friends would be advisable?
