Ofcom has ruled that an episode of Celebrity Big Brother broke scheduling regulations.

Five complaints were made about the Sunday, January 19 edition of the Channel 5 programme, which was a repeat of the previous evening's episode.

The complaints referred to sexual references and discussions, which were deemed inappropriate for its transmission time of 11.30am.

The episode's highlights included Ollie Locke and Luisa Zissman making bread shaped like Dappy's penis, and general chats about orgasms and sex.

Channel 5 responded at the time that viewers would have been aware of the show's "cheeky conversation, rude language and mildly sexually suggestive innuendos".

The channel also insisted that the episode was no more than "mildly risqué" and that it was not "highly charged or erotic" and "the explicit reference to orgasm was not aggressive or suggestive".

Ofcom ruled that Channel 5 was in breach of Rule 1.3, in that young viewers were not warned that the episode featured adult themes and that it was inappropriately scheduled.

The TV regulator stated that it was likely a large amount of unsupervised children would watch the episode, as it aired on a Sunday morning.

The ruling states: "We noted that Channel 5 said in its representations that in hindsight 'appropriate flagging' may have been suitable prior to the broadcast of this episode. Ofcom agreed.

"In Ofcom's opinion the absence of any warning meant that viewers (and especially parents or carers) were not provided with helpful information about the content included in this particular episode to help ensure the protection of children from unsuitable material.

"We considered that these factors resulted in this material being inconsistent with audience expectations for the content broadcast on this public service channel at 11.30 at a weekend. We therefore concluded the material was not appropriate."

As ridiculous as this is, at least it's an example of people complaining to OFCOM for a reason that they're actually there for -watershed issues and the like.
