Default 500 Police start with personal cameras on them - But Can Turn them off

If a Copper has a personal camera
on him he should not turn it off.

As he could turn it off - then break laws

Leave the Camera running Copper

[A trial of the cameras will see 500 distributed
to officers across 10 London boroughs.
Firearm officers will also use them in their training.
The pilot scheme comes as the force was criticised
following the death of Mark Duggan at the hands of armed officers.]

Perhaps we should all walk about with our personal web cams switched on all the time.

What a strange and peculiar World that would be.

Maybe it's because so many claims are made against the police for all manner of supposed wrongdoings. Personally I think it's a shame we live somewhere where the police get so little respect. I wouldn't want their job.

and you can do nothing about it

The camera won't be rolling constantly will it? If there is an incident where it IS required to give an objective view of a situation then I'm guessing that's when they will be used.

It may also stop some Police officers from using excessive force on suspects. So could be a good control device from both perspectives.

Reminds me of that Charlie Brooker programme when everyone could record every moment of their lives and the simplest of arguments they'd be there rewinding the footage to prove what was and wasn't said. This is dangerous.

Black Mirror - The Entire History of You.

What are you trying to say arista?... They are for the protection of the officer, so they are not accused of wrongdoing as they so often are.
If they choose not to record then that is their choice but in a situation where things could be misconstrued it would be wise to record an accurate sequence of events.

People can do anything at anytime, doesn't mean they will. There's corruption in every area.
If he does something and chooses not to record it then they're just in the boat they were before the camera, makes no difference.

Alot of American Cops do this already. I have no problem with it. It's similar to the cameras in cop cars.

I feel sorry for the police that have to wear it though

I guess its one extra thing the Police have to remember when going through their checklist

1. Apprehend suspect
2. Turn off camera
3. Kick the crap out of suspect
4. Turn on camera
5. Interview suspect

I wouldn't either Livia, I think overall the Police do the best job they can often in the face of many obstacles put in their way too.

england has more cameras than any other country and we are tiny. france is 3 times as big with half the crime we have and half the cameras. now they are doing this. jesus christ what happened to out rights of freedom and privacy , its disgusting and should be illegal.

everyday our civil liberties and freedom are being eroded.

Rubbish! when there is an incident anywhere what is the first thing people do now?... they get their phone out and record it, so what's wrong with a police officer doing it to prove that proper procedure was followed?

Thanks for the tip, I will definitely avoid hotel rooms with four poster beds and an unusual amount of mirrors.
