Default War Against Iraq - Protests

Russia and Japan have already held the marches and protests. Britain are doing theirs over the week. Today I was in Rapid in Liverpool and I heard these drums going by outside. They were marching up and down the streets. There was about 50 buses behind it all lol. I know it's not a funny matter but what really made me laugh was one of the chants they sung went like this :-

' Who let the bombs out? Bush! Bush and Blair!'

and it went on and on.

It's nice to see someone saying something about it really.

Graeme, although we are mostly on TIBB to have fun, I think it is only right and proper that we should acknowledge the perilous state we find ourselves in the world at the moment.

I have to admit I had an insane outburst of laughter myself when I heard on the news that protests against going to war were being held around the world in Washington, San Francisco, Berlin and..............Bradford!

That is not to belittle Bradford of course, or to make light of this awful situation.

I am a modest subscriber to the Labour party and was telephoned the other night with a request to send a little more each month.

At the end of the conversation he asked if I had any messages for him to pass back to Tony. By Golly, did I! It turned out like the Benecol/double glazing advert - he was trying to get away from me, but I had the bit between my teeth. Poor soul.

The gist of it was that I didn't want us to blindly follow giddy-up George W into oblivion. It's scary out there.

By the way Graeme, nice piccie!!

Looking more like your mum!

I suspect it was the same bunch of beatnicks that opposed the war to liberate Kuwait in 1991. They would prefer that Saddam Husain should be allowed to annex any state he likes.

In the previous decade these same beatnicks opposed the British task force to the South Atlantic. They preferred that an unelected military junta to sieze by force British Sovereign terrortory.

Would they prefer it if despots developed weapons of mass destruction so they could control the oil ?

Saddam Husain with a nuclear weapon would command a lot of support from the arab world - or else.

But then this is not politically correct.

I have to disagree with you Sticks, as a pacifist I am against violence in any shape or form.

Saddam Hussein may have weapons of mass destruction I accept, but until we have solid evidence how dare we threaten the lives of millions of Iraqis. The "ordinary" people of that country haven't done anything to hurt us!

George W Bush is, in my opinion, a very dangerous man. All he wants is to prove his worth to the American people. He seems to think that a war would make him more popular!

This all started because the Twin Towers were destroyed by Bin Laden and his cohorts. Because Bush can't seem to find him, he's moved on to Iraq!

I know this has been mentioned on another thread, but I still hold to the saying "Innocent until Proven Guilty" and until it has been proven, we cannot invade Iraq and endanger the lives of millions of innocent people!

Poor Labour party chappie - I bet he regretted contacting our ROB. She can be formiddable when she gets the bit between her teeth. I bet he was shaking like a jelly when he came off. Well done ROB.

I think politicians dont listen to the general public enough. They seem to take the attitude they know what is best for them. I am sure all those families with solidiers in them are feeling very apprehensive - look at what happened to the soldiers in the Gulf War etc and all the diseases they have suffered. Its not just the actual war its the knock on effect.

I dont know all the reasoning behind this latest possible conflict, but I do know its about time we had a mind of our own in this country and didnt blindly follow America all the time.

According to the MOD investigation there is no such thing a s Gulf War Syndrone. We should look at the evidence not the hysteria.

Fact: Saddam Husain tried to buld a supergun

Fact: Saddam Husain tried to get the technology for atomic weapons. An earlier attempt that was disguised as a nuclear powerplant had to be put out of action by the Israeli airforce.

Fact: Saddam Husain gassed his own people with chemicle weapons.

Fact: Saddam Husain ordered the invasion of another sovereign state (Kuwait) over oil

Fact: Saddam Husain held foreign hostages as human shields.

Fact: Saddam Husain fired Skud missiles at Israel in a cynical attempt to win the arab nations to his side. He claimed it was Israel that started the war when it was him that invaded Kuwait

Fact: Saddam Husain had said he wanted to burn half of Israel with chemicals

Fact: Iraq hampered and then threw out the first lot of UN Weapons Inspectors

Fact Saddam Husain has let his people starve while he tries to rebuild his weapons of mass destruction.

Fact: the current weapons inspectors found shells capable of being filled with chemical weapons, which were not on the list they provided.

Are we supposed to ignore this and do nothing ?

To be blunt, the Iraqi people have the solution in their own hands.

They should overthrow Saddam.

If the Romanians can overcome and overthrow Caucescue (Spelling ?) and his Securitate the Iraqi people can overthrow Saddam Husain.

On a lighter note, I think we should go back to the good old swingging 60's and make love not war, It's a lot more fun and not so dam costly. I think I'll have my hair at collar length before and if it starts.

On an even lighter note:

Do you think this is what they mean by the 'smoking gun'?
