It seemed Big Brother were turning a corner last year with a good Secrets and Lies series followed by a strong celebrity series earlier on in January with perfectly executed twists and a good selection of housemates.
Channel 5 now have seemed to have regressed into bad habits and have selected fame hungry people for their main show. All we are told have claim to fame. Surely Big Brother is about people who have not been famous or not on the cusp of being so. They say to do audition but why waste people's time and ask them too when they probably already knew who they were selecting. This is what is what turning people off. This tension in the house seems to be a clash of personalities and seems forced unlike previous series where we had good house mates that gave us stories that made us laugh, cry and give us something to talk about. For me, this is why Big Brother is failing in the ratings because it is just continual arguments and people obsessing how they are perceived. I miss the early days of 2000-2002 and 2004 where it was actually entertaining. Now house mates try to be fame hungry and we get them between the ages of 18-30 which seems very ageist. I feel if producers broaden their age range, went from auditions again and introduced some elements from old series like live tasks then old Big Brother fans may be won back. I used to watch the show every night when it first began. Now, the appeal seems lost as it just seems to be the same formula every year. Marcus Bentley as well has been overused. There is no need for him to narrate at the start with his exaggerated voice. When the house mates enter, let Emma speak about the housemates like Davina used to on Channel 4. I know Channel 5 want to make their mark on the show but for me it does not seem to be like the Big Brother of old. These 1-1.5 million or even lower than 900,000 viewing figures won't change until the producers realise that not everyone likes how the show has become. |

The sad thing about casting in recent years is a trend of HM archetypes that are the same year in year out, with a few exceptions (Jale this year being an example).
- black male "lad" - 1x (or more) brunette model - 1x (or more) blonde model - outspoken black female - thick Essex "lad" - posh male - very camp male - one old female, no other HMs over 40

I agree we should have more unknown housemates but there has been people that were known in some way or related to someone that was known from way back in BB1 and every series afterwards although we do have a lot more hm's like that in every series now.
A lot of isn't even just to do with wannabe celeb housemates, take this house for example, filled with people that have been on other shows, models and people that's been in the headlines but if the producers would just chuck them in and leave them to it rather than this infatuation they seem to have these days with trying to manufacture drama, this house has been the proof that they do not have to do that, arguments erupt in this house at the most random of time and for the most stupid reasons. And don't even get me started on the 'twists' most of them are so unnecessary it's just turned the word twist into a complete farce. Just stick the hm's in, don't try to cause crap, don't try to find hm's like ones we have seen over and over, don't mess with noms, don't have twists every few days and give us live feed ffs. |

Yea the last two big brothers were really great. one of the best.
this one is a comedown mainly due to the housemate selection. they took the power thing to litteral when they chose these people. but the funny thing is. none have had to fight for power yet. they have all been givne it. so really they might as well of got normal people in. Twists are great but to hook a viewer into watching you need to get the viewer to engage and know who the housemates are and have people you can relate to. then they will watch. the problem with nows format is were 3 weeks in and we still dont know some of them 2 days entry taking away the viewers power to vote someone out by ibving free passes etc. is a bad bad idea. it turns people of. they need to go back to basics a little bit. get 15 people in on one night. lets watch them a few days give the tasks ( good ones) so its not boring. then start doing twists. when they least expect it. and pick normal people go recruit of the street whatver long as they get them

I wouldn't say they had perfectly executed twists but I get where you're coming from.
