Default How accurate a portrayal of the housemates do you think we are getting...

..without live-feed and with BB's editing and also by the video clips they release...I was think yesterday that there are a few things that have been completely misleading to me in that there was a vid clip of an argument that looked as though it was started by Marlon and then the highlight show, showed that wasn't the case at all..and then there were two vid clips involving Matthew which both seemed to conflict what he was saying..anyway, without getting into specifics and just in general..if vid clips can be slanted in such a way as to be completely wrong then so can the HL show obviously and I've always thought well these things can't be shown if they didn't happen and a certain housemate hadn't behaved like that etc...but maybe they didn't always behave like that but things are just so finely edited..?...

..also, we always seem to have such extremes of personalities in the house now but maybe they're not so extreme but just shown to be that way because BB choose to not show us their 'balance' and the good bits...and also it's ok people saying, oh let's not vote out the 'entertaining' characters and it's all the stupid viewers fault for doing that but it isn't at all, it's all BB's fault and what they 'engineer' because they know when they show certain bits and portray housemates in certain ways what the viewers reaction will be to that..they're kind of a bit savvy about public opinion so if they didn't want us all to scream ..OUT OUT, then they wouldn't 'slant' housemates in certain way....

..anyway...thoughts..?..

It's not happening so much to me now, but there was a time in the show when people were nomming each other for reasons and yet none of it was shown in the HL. I understand the editors are limited for time, but it felt to me that we were witnessing very little of what was going on in there. Also the likes of Pauline seemed to be dominating the footage.

Now I believe that it's a lot better, however I feel that it's only better because we have got a sense of who these people are and their relationships by watching so many shows. I'm not sure a new viewer would be able to ascertain the house dynamics just by watching one highlight show.

Also I recall from the last time we had live footage there would be ongoing stories in there that would never make the HL shows. And yep while it's easier for BB to manipulate the events of the house, I do believe they try to be as honest in their portrayal of the HMs as possible, in a way they take their lead from the HMs.

This has the makings of a good thread.I have only watched the past five BB shows so still learning but its clear that the producers can influence the public vote via what they show (or omit).

Do they think this way sometimes or are they committed to presenting an unbiased and fair portrayal of each housemate.? I am undecided but watching more than 45mins a day would help get a better overview as does reading this forum.

To be honest I don't think that there will be a an accurate portrayal of the HM's until the overbearing personalities like Toya and Helen are no longer in the house.

Extremely inaccurate.
1) toya is always shown to me moaning or arguing. It is highly unlikes that she would do this all day and everyone still like her (they all loved her week one and two remember)
2) Christopher seems to get on everyone's nerves, at fist I thought it was just them picking on someone for no good reason but then I started wondering whether there was something I we are mission something.
3) conversations in the house at times are so chopped that sometimes thy don't even make sense.
4) Marcus's narrating is completely biased.

It's more accurate for some I'd say, like the 'bigger' personalities. For instance Steven didn't even get a word in the HL's last night did he? Neither did Kim. We know sometimes they're left for hours on end and BB just skips that because it wants to keep things fast paced. I'm sure some of the conversations are interesting but it doesn't fit with the storyline that the house is at war. The massive time jumps are quite telling when they're wanting to hurry up the day. They seem to count 5 mins of task footage as a whole afternoon.

BB have always presented the HM's in certain ways. Watching the live feed gave a much clearer perspective on what was really going on.

The HL show tends to show the extremes like the fights, but its also edited to make a "story". For example if Danielle and Ashleigh are sitting b*tching about Toya, the show cuts to Toya making an angry face, which could have been filmed two days ago. Instantly a viewer sympathies with the two girls. However if the HL show concentrates on Toya laughing and joking, occasionally cutting to the two girls b*tching. Then viewers tend to side with the "victim" of the situation.

Its very clever.

Not everyone liked her. And her over reaction while "explaining" herself was very Pauline like.

Christopher just seems a little dull. From what I have gathered the HM's don't like the way he flitters from group to group, asking questions.

It would make for a boring show watching a guy wandering around not doing very much.

Remember the HM's also had a large penny drop last week, when the realised that maybe the pushed Christopher out, rather than he distanced himself. That one of their biggest complaints against the guy was of their own doing.

And half the time you wonder if they are combining two conversations to jazz things up.

Totally! His disapproving tone of voice creeps in at will.
