GREECE Backed from Locke since the Qualifying Rounds the smart lad had done all he could to warn the TiBB public that the Greece juggernaut would be qualifying from their group and be one of the surprise packages of the tournament, and when Celtic hero Samaras stepped up to score a last minute penalty and send the Greeks through all was confirmed. 10 years ago Greece won the European Championships by winning every knockout game 1-0, it is destined to be again. COSTA RICA Another that Locke warned about. He distinctly remembers the day before the World Cup started saying to Novo and Drew "Costa Rica are the ones to worry about in this group, Joel Campbell is going to rip us all apart" which was met with "LOL!!!!!!!". Both absolutely clueless you could say. THE MATCH It'll be another defensive performance from Greece as Costa Rica are strong going forward and with Mitroglou unfit Greece aren't. Another smash and grab is lined up. The winner of this game also plays the winner of Netherlands/Mexico, and I am for one are more than willing to watch as my team eliminate Leon's team. Not sure if Costa Rica will line up with 5 at the back again or if they'll change system, because Greece won't be on the attack much. KEY PLAYERS SO FAR Greece Sokratis Papastathopoulos & Kostas Manolas - Two solid centre backs that have so far carried their club form onto the international stage. Manolas will be in the Premier League in the next couple of years, already turned Everton down. Giannis Maniatis & Panagiotis Kone - Maniatis has done an amazing job of linking up both defensively and in attacking play so far. Kone has been at the head of most of Greece's threatening moments so far but I believe he will miss the rest of the World Cup with injury. Georgios Samaras - Played down the left hand side for the first two games were he was a bit hit and miss, but played as a centre forward to accomade for an unfit Mitroglou against Ivory Coast and was a threat every time he got the ball. Scored the goal to send Greece through and will be high on confidence. Costa Rica The entire defence - Only conceded one goal in a group containing Mario Balotelli, Edinson Cavani, and Daniel Sturridge (not including Suarez because he didn't play against them), amazing achievement. They have played with a back 5 in all 3 games so far but I'm not sure if they'll keep it the same vs Greece or not, as they're nowhere near as threatening going forward as the three they've played so far. Christian Bolanos & Bryan Ruiz - Done such a good job supporting Campbell upfront. Ruiz has been terrible at Fulham but having seen him for Costa Rica you can see why they signed him for such a large fee. Joel Campbell - I knew he'd be good after his performances in the big games for Olympiakos this season but I wasn't expecting him to be as good as he has been. Destroyed Uruguay, a solid performance against Italy, and got a rest towards the end of the England game. He spent the last season on loan at Greece and it has made him into the player he is, it's only fair that he takes it easy against the National side. ODDS Costa Rica - 6/4 Draw - 2/1 Greece - 2/1 LOCKE'S PREDICTION Euro 2004 repeat, Greece are going all the way from this point with 1-0 victories. Samaras every time. |

If they make it to the quarter-finals, the Greek Federation may have a problem as coach Fernando Santos's contract expires on Monday. He has previously said he doesn't intend staying a day longer.
