I think he's being really really fake and playing up to being dumb.

Really don't want him to win for being lovable and 'dumb'

The real Mark might be the one we see when he gets annoyed by people. He gets a lot more serious and becomes much more mature. When he gets all childish and giddy I think that is when is acting up for cameras eg when he got stuck in the plant pot, that was all fake. When he got angry at the Helen v Matthew, that was genuine I think and naturally funny.
