Default Pav's Psychology Degree

I've seen quite a lot of posts and comments on BOTS claiming that Pav is perceptive/a game player just because he has a Psychology degree, but I really don't think it makes any difference. I've just finished a Psychology degree, and can confirm that I did not study anything that would allow me to be more perceptive about the housemates, or enable me to manipulate them to my advantage.

I'm not denying that Pav has the ability to play the game, and so far he seems to maybe have it in him. I'm just saying I think it's laughable that he and other people are claiming his Psych degree has any input!

It's dumb. So many HMs are self-proclaimed masterminds because they have a psych degree and then they fail miserably. Not expecting much from Pav tbh.

I don't agree that he can manipulate people just because he has a psych degree, but he must have studied behaviour and how people react to certain situations, body language etc, or am I being naive?

Personally I studied nothing about body language, and barely anything about social behaviour, because it's just not scientific enough. The field's moved on. It's the same when the Psychs on BOTS give their opinion about the housemates' behaviour.. it is just backed up by fancy Psychology jargon (not claiming that they're necessarily always wrong btw).

I guess Pav's degree could have been different to mine

I have no idea Jessica, I don't think Pav will mastermind his way to the final put it that way. As for the Pychs on BOTS...well the less said the better

Yeah I get the feeling he might think he's being all mastermind and that the public is loving his gameplay, but ends up being the new background guy. Hope we're wrong!

I've got a psychology degree, and I agree with you - Pav (and the BB rhetoric) seem to be going with the "common understanding" of what psychology is, i.e. "knowing what people are thinking", "reading body language" or - my personal favourite - "interpreting people's boring, stupid dreams".

I suppose it does depend on whether or not he specialised in his final year, and what in. If he went down the route of social / group psychology, then he might have a better understanding of group dynamics and be better able to identify people's natural group roles, but that doesn't mean he can read individual people and their game plans like an open book.

Although... with THIS lot... maybe if he studied a bit of criminology it could be useful? Or Abnormal Psychology, for Steven

[edit to add] Oh yes and I fully agree that the "psychologists" on BOTS are an absolute joke. They're no different to that woman who used to come on and throw around asparagus.

you've got to do what you've got to do to get into the house. just like tarting up your CV for a job application.

Having a psychology degree is not going to help Pav in this current situation. Going into the house this late and with the characters in there he will struggle badly to make any impact.

He would have needed to be in there from the start as now I fear he will be merely tolerated and ultimately nominated every week until he is evicted.

His physical appearance and non Alpha male stature will also count against him and no amount of brain power is going to change that so NO

He will be out asap

Hahah oh god on my first day of uni when I met my flatmates, one of them asked me if I could analyse her dreams yeah it is the sort of common understanding that Psychology is all about body language etc... If I was Pav I'd want to be getting away from that perception and show that my degree is worth a little more than that!

That is true. I specialised in neuroscience in my final year so had very little experience of social dynamics etc. Though I can confirm that there was no module called "Reading people's minds and understanding game plans"

What is Judy James' obsession with people having a fight face on, bearing their teeth, showing their armpits etc.?! Sometimes people are just happy!!

At least when Pav does get kicked out of the house next week or the week after, he will be able to provide Emma with a very detailed analysis of why that happened.

Yeah good point! It's sad to say that due to his appearance, non Alpha male stature and voice, the housemates wouldn't allow him to be taken seriously even if he does clock them all. So even if his Psychology degree did help him at all, I doubt it'd help him get further in the house

Even if he can read the housemates or whatever else, atm he is unable to even get a word in with the other 2 newbies constantly speaking over him so what chance does he have in the long run? if he manages to take charge of the eviction decision then I will have a lot of respect for him tbh because after seeing the clips of them discussing it my first thoughts were well he will have no say...we will see how it all plays out I suppose.

I agree Josy, Biannca didn't even bother looking at him when he started to speak, just kept looking at Zoe and spoke over him. I feel a little sorry for him really, I bet he has some interesting ideas but they're not willing to give him the time of day!

I hope we get to see him alone in the DR discussing his true opinions and who he'd like to evict so we can see how much he gets across to the girls in his final decision
