Default I may be out of contact for a while

The joiner is coming tomorrow morning to fix my front door. The wood is splitting around the hinges (See attached image).

The problem is that my telephone cable, and hence access to the internet goes through the top of the frame. I am uncertain if they will have to remove my telephone link to do the work.

If so I do not know when the telephone company could fix it and how much it will cost. I may have to wait awhile before I can afford to get back on the phone and online

I do not know if I will be able to continue to post from work

To make matters worse, one of the flats two floors above me has sprung a leak been pouring their bath water into my flat.

So if I stop posting for a while, it is because I have lost my connection due to repair work.

The plumber thinks they can get round the wire with something called splicing - but I can not see it

Here is a further picture of how the cables pass through the door frame, including the one for the Cable Digital TV

It is going to be unsettling not being on the phone, if that happens.

With my luck at the moment they will want to charge me a connection fee as if I were a new customer.

The repairman has left.

He used plugs of some kind, not being a joiner or a DIY person I could not follow what he did

He did not have to touch the cables, the main thing, so I am still online

for now.

Idealy he would have put in a new doorframe somehow, but the presence of leaking water in the flats rules that out. In the ceiling of our corridor there is what I am told a wet rot. They occasionally come up in the bathroom where I pour a bottle of bleach on them.

See attached.

With my finances, there is no way I could ever get a mortgage so I am stuck here

I wonder if this explains my bleakness

That looks very nasty sticks.
It's a good job the water hasn't leaked on to your computer, then you would have been in trouble.
Hope everything get's fixed up for you soon. At least you didn't lose your connection to us.

Sorry to hear about the wet rot. Is it a crummy council repair bodge up?

Poor old you Sticks.

Glad to see your online status is unchallenged!

We have had a water leak in the corridor some months, and I was told there was nothing that could be done because there was Asbestos in the vicinity, and City Works are not qualified to handle Asbestos

Last night was exceptionally bad.

BTW is anyone out there a mycologist ?

Sorry not a mycologist Sticks, old bean, but I am sorry you're having such a rotten time. Get onto the council again. Keep badgering and keep your spirits up. I for one love your posts. You are what is known as an original thinker, Sticks, old chum and I don't know how we'd manage without your unique perspective on life.

Keep it up.

Not a mycologist either Sticks, I think looking at the picture you posted earlier in this thread is as close as I'd like to get to studying in this field.

OK - I admit it - I had to look up 'mycologist' in the dictionary!

Mycologist = Person who studies fungi.

So Sticks, in answer to your question, sorry . . . . . No!.

Glad you're still with us, though!
