I've thought this for years now, but i've hadn't created a thread about it as of yet. We all know that girls get the boot more often than boys do, in Big Brother. We're also all quite quick to post comments such as "the public hates women" etc. Whilst i'm not here to deny that the public could be giving preferential gendered treatment to men, I think it's also important to consider the way the Big Brother cast team objectify women in the first place. Let's look at the BB15 cast. Ashleigh, Danielle and Kimberly are models. Biannca and Helen both worked in some form of prostitution. Zoe and Toya, whilst both having other talents are somewhat successful because they're both beautiful girls. Pauline, whilst being older now, made a living in the past by looking good as a dancer. That leaves Jale. Only one housemate who's main merit to being on the house really isn't tied down to her looks.

I believe that when Big Brother objectify women in the first place through casting, it's inevitable that this mentality is going to be passed on to viewers. If women of backgrounds other than modeling and prostitution were more prominent in the house, I sincerely believe they would've done better as a whole on Big Brother up until now.

In my day-to-day life I know a whole bundle of wonderful women, but they do seem very scarce on Big Brother

I am fed up of the sort of woman who wears extensions, has boob jobs routinely and wears spray tan. Ashleigh is different but she has dyed her hair peroxide! Is there no such thing as a natural beauty any more?
I have to say the men are fast catching up. I cannot understand the love of spray tan, hair spray, painted eyebrows. Vanity rules.

I would describe all my family as wonderful, but they ALL bitch. Everybody bitches. It is not the actual act of bitching that determines whether a person is liked or disliked but what they are bitching about.

Well yeah obviously. C5's idea of television is "sluts fighting xxx" you really need to look no further than their response to the Hazel incident when they were basically like "well we didn't show you this but she said she liked being choked and **** so #bitchdeservedit" which is so incredibly offensive I can't believe it happened. Not to mention CBB13 was basically a month of "boys rule girls drool" even when almost every single guy in there exhibited some form of sexism. Every woman this season except Jale and Tamara is either a model, singer, or sex worker of some sorts. C5 doesn't even try to hide their misogyny anymore, even though this show has hated woman since literally the first series.

It's funny you say that Jale is the only girl not cast because of her looks... because I genuinely believe they only cast her because she was A) Turkish, so it gave them 'diversity' and B) Not a recruit, so it would stop people complaining they were all scouted

I think that the problem stems from the women that go in are in majority "models" or there to make a name for themselves. Most have a history like Helen, or are quite loopy. Rare to find a Jale type female. Plus it would be nice if they put more than a token oldie in! Not everyone is 22 years old.

When I read BB was having a former Oxford Uni law student, I was excited at a lass cast for brains. Then I realised she -Kimberly- was a Playboy bunny, and just went to Oxford Brookes (sorry Poly fans).

The reality is women in media are only valued in terms of looks. Nearly all female (young ie under 40) celebs are attractive/ slim. Clare Balding, Rebecca Adlington, Mary Beard are slated. Nobody slated Jeremy Clarkson, Rooney gets sposorsip deals, Alan Carr a mega TV contract.

If a woman is brainy then she has to be good looking too. Look at Rachel Riley Countdown. Then look at the tall bloke sitting behind desk with answers who does the equivalent role on BBC quiz Pointless quiz.

If there is such a thing, and remember people are all different so some'll be nicer than others, why don't they go on BB?; I think Tamara was a nice down to earth woman-nice,pretty, got a brain and a good job but everyone else seemed to hate-there must be something wrong with the selection process which means "bitches" as you put it are selected for that reason-to be hated by the public and help some bloke look great and win.

Or maybe it's that women are just all individual and do/say/think what they do because that's just what people do-we live our lives how we choose just like every other human being on the planet. Maybe the problem isn't with women but with how much intolerance of women their is in society-women are often treated as second class-they get paid less than women for the same job,we've seen how often women are blamed for a man's reaction on BB, held responsible for their own attacks,blamed for "leading men on".

I'm afraid I think it's that it boils down to one rule for one and one rule for another. I also think women are to blame;constantly belittling each other and sympathizing with men,understanding men,empathizing with men.

Fine but that doesn't give ANYONE the right to be so cruel and insensitive towards,let's face it, women. Have you any idea how much verbal abuse,insults and name calling Tamara had to deal with while she was in the house and even weeks after she left?.

People who what BB should use that thing between their ears to see the people on the show just that-people instead of dreaming insults to hurl at total stranger who can't fight back because they don't know it's happening or, like Tamara after she left, if they took the bait and fought back they'd expose themselves even more so they just have to grin and bare it.

I think people who are abusive to hm's are all hypocrites-they condemn the hm's behavior but they themselves go on a verbally abusive rampage.

I think the real reason why more women are voted out first is because they are more entertaining/have done stuff to provoke people to vote them out - main example of this is Toya from this series. It is a shame that we are left with boring males like Winston and Ash as a consequence

The first post in reply to the OP basically summed it up, the producers seem to think EVERYONE wants to see complete nasty, aggressive, argumentative females in BB when they should have got the hint by now that they will be voted off at the first opportunity.

Yeah most people do bitch, moan, gossip whatever name you want to give to it, some more than others but being a bitch and bitching aren't the same thing IMHO.
