The Deputy Prime Minister's proposal would see prison sentences abolished in England and Wales even for possession of Class A drugs such as heroin and cocaine.
The Lib Dems believe that people who use drugs should be treated for addiction rather than caged behind bars. The party says 1,000 people a year are jailed for the possession of drugs for their own personal use at a cost to the taxpayer of £5m. Half of those serving time are in jail for using the Class B drug cannabis. Mr Clegg told the Sun: “At the moment, we are doing an utterly senseless thing - chucking the people who need treatment behind bars so they simply become even more vulnerable to the criminal gangs who exploited them in the first place.” http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news...#ixzz39oZd6Zzz Glad he's got something right this time. |

Of all the 3 party leaders, he knows he can now say anything as to things like this because no party will ever take this one on.
This is a leader whose desperation knows no limits at all now, he has in my view, no political credibility or integrity left. I would love to see this pathetic leader lose his seat in 2015.whatever he says, cannot be trusted one tiny bit. Anything he said in the campaign would be meaningless if he again had the chance of a share of Govt for a time with whoever too. Last edited by joeysteele; 08-08-2014 at 06:30 PM. |

He'll never win. The majority of the Lib Dems have converted to Labour&Green. I personally support the latter.
I agree with the policy on removing the sentence, but after 1 rehab visit, reoffenders should be imprisoned for wasting people's time. Also these rehabs should use privately run services so that taxpayers aren't funding for people to abuse their bodies. |

Nick Clegg couldn't pay people to vote for him, so it's pointless discussing what he might do if elected.

I agree on focussing on rehabilitation but abolishing sentences for possession completely? No.

He knows he's no chance, but there's no harm in being doubly sure is there?

It's a shame whoever wins won't take on this policy!
People should be allowed to take/use/ingest whatever they want to! Allowing people to only use the substances that they deem acceptable (and, of course, highly profitable!) while keeping others illegal is bullsh*t. They'll never succeed in stopping people taking drugs. People want to take drugs and will continue to do so regardless of the laws so they really need to look at legislation. Billions of $/£ enter the criminal underground network every year because of drugs being illegal. Most people would buy their drugs from a legal source over an illegal one if they were given the choice. They need to look at the reasons why people want or need to take drugs rather than trying to come up with unworkable solutions to stopping them. Last edited by JTM45; 13-08-2014 at 02:14 AM. |
