This is a great Idea Boris Johnson backs it. Example a £6 Ocado Chicken for £1.25 The locals must fit the criteria and they get help for 6 months at this store - that also teaches cooking better. http://www.theguardian.com/society/2...p-opens-london |

It's such a simple idea I'm surprised it's taken this long.

I have already stated that this innovation is both brilliant and worthy, but that does not mean that it should be 'crowed about' and worn like some 'Badge of Honour' by any politician, if it is the only action being implemented, with no Government strategy for eradicating the causes of such a shocking state-of-affairs. As for what New Labour could have done but didn't, that is irrelevant. When a new government assumes power it has a duty to govern 'equitably' in the best interests of all citizen's, and that means correcting the mistakes of any previous government as well as implementing new policies which the outgoing government may have overlooked. I vote Conservative, so my previous post was certainly not an indictment of the current government in favour of 'New Labour' - far from it - I was merely stating the facts as I see them, because no political party is so perfect that it is beyond reproach -- whether in power or opposition. If only.

It didn't happen before as the supermarkets were not on board, nobody had the funds or resources to fund the collection or overheads of stores.
Somebody has to be making money here.

**** all to do with politics and everything to do with normal people helping each other out. Anybody trying to claim any credit for any political party having anything to do with it can go and suck a bag of dicks.

I'm maybe being too cynical...it all just seems too corporate.

It's probably secretly Tesco selling off all of the food destined for the bin to stave off bankruptcy.

Incidentally: do you think I could sell my bin food? I forgot to take the green bin out for collection a few weeks ago and I just can't catch up! It fills before collection day! I've got a bag of Doritos here that the cat got into and I was going to bin. It's probably fine, he's just a kitten and doesn't go outdoors yet so won't have any mouse germs or anything. Some hobo or other will buy them, surely? Say 25p?
