Default Will Big Brother UK itself get TIME BOMBED? (get axed)

Due to recent events/twists and rumors that the series is possible being shortened. And the fact that there is probably more to come.

Do you think this will eventually lead to civilian BB (or even BB UK altogether) being cancelled/put to a hiatus in the near future? (for example after this series)

Or do you think it will just continue?

If they continue the way they do, it´s getting closer and closer to it by the minute.

It's contracted til 2018 so unless they want to pay a hefty fine then I doubt it. I think it's plausible that it won't be contracted after 2018.

I think they will certainly give it a go again in 2016. If BB17 also flops then they will probably bite the bullet and axe it, even if it means getting a hefty fine from the contract being cancelled early. Although that wholly depends on what the contact does and does not allow.

If not then at this very moment I would be extremely surprised if civilian Big Brother makes it beyond 2018. But who knows what will happen between now and then, we would be up to BB19 by then, the show may redeem itself by then and be back to performing how Channel 5 want it to.

CBB on the other hand looks set to be safe for the foreseeable future. It performs very well and has never been affected so far.

It's hard to say at the moment what will happen. But I really think there needs to be a serious shake up with Endemol's production for Big Brother. Clearly the people currently in charge don't have a clue what they're doing. The show is reeking of desperation now and for the show to work I really think it needs to be a simpler show, with little twists, normal noms, a varied cast, the launch advertised intensely (beyond a few adverts on MTV and C5) up to a week before the show, and also launch in June after Eurovision and BGT.

It's annoying because I was really enjoying this series up until the twist was revealed.

I don't know what Big Brother or Channel 5 were expecting launching in May, clashing with BGT and Eurovision, and not advertising the show anywhere. This series was doomed right from there before we even got to the series starting.

what would you rather pay?-
  • a 'hefty' fine
  • tons of money on the house, studios, cars, EVERYTHING, and then it going to waste

That hefty fine will be be what they are contracted to pay for the show rights so there won't be any difference either way.

I can see civilian BB getting axed but not Celeb, it's C5's biggest show

I dont understand? What fine would they get if Endemol agrees to close the contract early? Atleast for BB anyway, CBB is growing

I think it's just going through a crisis.

If BB17, does as bad as Timebomb, then I can't see it coming back for 2017 or 2018.

However, if CBB continues to do well, then I can see them axing Big Brother, and just having two CBB's a year.

One in January, and one in July, replacing civilian.

It's funny how we all thought Power Trip ratings were bad, but Power Trip did amazing in ratings compared to Timebomb.

However, there's still about 7 weeks left of this series, so maybe and hopefully the ratings pick up.

I have asked this once, but: Does anyone know, do they have an obligation to produce both civilian BB and Celebrity BB or do they only have to do either one and optionally end the other one?

Meaning do they have some other kind of an added contractual requirement to produce BB?
Other than the obvious and the primary one: That BB has to continue to be produced until the end of 2018.

My thoughts on both CBB and BB.

CBB works right now because we already have some idea of the housemates with them being celebrities already. So BB meddling with CBB makes it funny and it only lasts a very short time in comparison to Civilian BB so us the viewers can take their meddling knowing it ends soon. So CBB works because it is a short show and we are already familiar with those celebrities.

Civilian BB on the other hand is a slow burner and the production team must take the blame here for trying to rush things in the name of entertainment with twist after twist relentlessly over a 10 week show.
It doesn't work because it's a much longer show. Having so many twists Is overkill on Civilian BB, we don't get a chance to warm to any of the housemates at all because the production team are more interested in Emma saying....BB will never be the same again ,rock the house tonight blah blah blah twist twist twist.lol It turns people off.

The production team won't allow Civilian BB to breathe. If they would only not meddle for 1 week and give the viewers a chance to get to know the housemates i am sure people would start watching again instead of watching old BB re runs like myself and others on here who are completely pissed off with the production teams constant meddling.

There are so many problems with the show it's hard to see it recovering fully. The thing it comes down to is money and reputation. Is it making money for ch5, and what is it doing for their reputation?

Also, I'm probably a lone voice here but I don't actually blame the production for the shows failings. It's always been a timebomb (pardon the pun) because viewers were harder to please year after year. BB led the way when it started but like anything new and exciting it inevitably had it's spotlight taken by other shows (eg. TOWIE/Geordie Shore etc) because they were newer and fresher. Now BB is trying to copy those shows because that's seemingly what viewers want. (It's no coincidence that you now have people from those shows recycled into CBB.) And we can say it's not what we want but at the end of the day, it's viewing figures and column inches they're looking at, so as much as I dislike most of the changes to the series, I can't really blame them for making them.

Depends what the contract allows. There might be a clause allowing them to stick solely to CBB if they no longer like the performance of the civilian show.

Even though the poor performance of the civilian show is their own stupid faults.

But then didn't C5 only want to purchase CBB in 2011 but Endemol would only make a deal for both?

It was 1 contract think it was 3 normal BB's and 5 CBB's
But Viacom/C5 and Endemol can renegotiate terms so doesntmatter whatever crap people are saying on this thread :L

Nothing would make me happier. BB producers blame the housemates for the low ratings. The show was doing ok until they started ti manipulate it.

It just needs a break like Love Island, Unfortunately if they dont continue with CBB I could see them knock down thr BB house in years to come.

(Which would be a part of reality tv broken)

CBB always does brilliantly because it's a vote to save. They would be mad to axe it. I think they may axe BB and just have CBB.
