I have had it for a few days now and it seems to be running fine. My kid has it on his desktop computer, and he loves it. Had no driver issues either, which is handy.

If you right click in your taskbar, then go to 'properties' and tick the box to 'use small taskbar buttons' you only get a magnifying glass icon, and not the full search bar.

Yet to upgrade myself, but this will probably be useful for some regarding opting out of the 'spying'.- http://bgr.com/2015/07/31/windows-10...ow-to-opt-out/

My update's ready but I still haven't downloaded it, I'm wary about it going wrong and then wishing I just left it as it was.

I hate it, it's so slow and buggy. My volume keeps dying and I have to troubleshoot to get it back + when I turn the laptop on from sleep it jusy stays on a black screen. Just for the old start menu returning it wasn't worth the upgrade.

Why would anyone voluntarily be a free beta tester for Microsoft? Think I'll be sensible and leave it for 6 to 9 months and let you guys iron out the bugs .

Although I do have a windows 8 laptop kicking around somewhere, I could test it on that I suppose... Just to be nosy...

My volume keeps getting louder even though it says it's at the same level as before

Telling you, you'll get bugs all over the place for at least 6 months to a year. Also, it auto-updates and you can't stop it, and every time it does you might get brand new security loopholes and more bugs. You're volunteering to beta-test the software... for free...

There's nothing functionally wrong with Windows 8.1 if you get Start8 (windows 7 style start menu for windows 8.1), boot directly to desktop and forget the tablet-style mess running in the background exists. It really only needs a bit of tweaking.

My only concern is that DX12 is going to be Windows 10 exclusive, that might eventually force me to "upgrade".

Not sure if its been officially stated but numerous places say DX12 is exclusive to Windows 10. Which is a bit of a bummer.
